Sooo which kayak do you recommend for deploying baits? I had a frenzy until last October someone decided they needed it more then I did grrrrr anyways, need to get another one ASAP and want to make sure I'm getting the best for breaking through the surf. _________________ Bad fisherman blame their bait, or the lack there of. |

I've owned/used a scrambler xt, a frenzy, and a prowler big game. The prowler is the slowest but keeps me dry in the winter. The frenzy is easy to correct in rough seas but fills up quick and bails really slow making it slow going through the breakers. The scrambler xt is fast and plenty stable and cuts through the waves. I sold my scrambler a while back due to it being older and wanting to try a frenzy. Long story short I miss my scrambler xts.....
Zodiac in the future hopefully. |

I had a frenzy first and while it worked and was stable it was very slow. I have also tried it in a Malibu2 and it was OK. But I like the scrambler the best. It's not as stable but stable enough that I don't flip it very often, and when you do flip its not hard to flip it and get back in. It's also LOTS faster than the frenzy. I would recommend theocean kayak scrambler. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

| I grew up on the space coast of Florida and did a lot of surfing. The fisherman would pay us a couple of bucks to paddle out their "bait" past the breakers. It was nice having a little cash in your pocket at 12 years old. When I hit 16 it would go a long way in gas. (90 cents a gallon back then). |

I have had a scrambler and I still have a frenzy. There's a reason I still have a frenzy.
A frenzy will handle much rougher surf than any other kayak. Paddling back in rough surf you will nose-dive in anything over 10 feet long (trust me).
Most of the time when you're running baits the surf is generally on the rougher side than the calmer side. I personally would rather sacrifice a little speed for increased stability but that's just my 2 cents. A frenzy is also easier to store, transport, and carry than larger yaks. _________________ "I never had an Easter, but I've always had a bunch of speakers" - Beardo |

Scrambler XT hands down. I'm a big guy and this handles better than a frenzy. At least for me it does. A buddy got a zodiac a few years ago so haven't yaked in a while. Thanks Rudy!!! _________________ Thanks Bubba |

Slow kayaks suck when making 400+ yard drops. I'd rather get a faster one that tracks well vs. one that can handle rough surf. If you pay attention and understand how sets work, you can time it right and maneuver past the breakers without flipping the yak...most of the time. _________________ Fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Not gonna argue with that! My furthest drops are usually just past the 3rd bar though. _________________ "I never had an Easter, but I've always had a bunch of speakers" - Beardo |

I think it's a to each their own kind of thing. What works well for some might not work as well for others. It's just like any other kayak thread. Try before you buy whenever possible. Rent one for the day and get a buddy to rent another and try them in the surf to see what you like. There are also the demo days but it's in the bay and doesn't give a good feel for how it will handle in the waves. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

If you still have that little out board you used for duck hunting I can get you a avon (zodiac) for around $200 bucks. Let me know. _________________ If you dont believe in god, you havent been to Texas. |
