Perhaps this has been posted before but I hadn't seen it and it's a little slice of our history that I find just swell Smile so I thought I'd share.

http://www.texasarchive.org/library/index.php?title=Padre_Island&p=video1&b=0&e=350

I would sure love to be able to experience a time like this, more simple and pristine than what we find today.

I like how the text says San Padre Island. A nice look back at 1960.

the girls remind me of my mother...
fit, healthy, and happy...
and the inflatable rafts... lol...
about 1966/7 I was gonna surf the biggest wave of the day...
but I forgot to paddle ahead...
WIPEOUT!
my dad laughed for days ....
he said all he saw was the raft shoot up and feet and hands going everywhere....

Anyone know the name of the motel in the video? It looks like what later became the Radisson. I think it was "Sea" something.

Not much has changed people still lined up on bob hall and 4x4's pulling out cars stuck on the beach. Makes me miss summer. Only a couple more months till it's sunny and beautiful out.

While growing up in Harlingen we would come to Corpus mainly to the Bluff to visit my oldest brother stationed at NAS Corpus Christi. I think the first time was in 67 when he got back from Vietnam. The 55 mile stretch was really a 55 mile stretch. We stayed at the fancy Padre Motel which is pretty run down now. Never knew then that I would oneday be working at the base and living here. I'm surprised the film didn't show the pier that we used to fish from on South Padre that was destroyed in Hurricane Beulah. Man don't even remember what kind of car we had then I think it was a big old Buick. Very Happy

Definitely looks like early 60s. If I remember right, the harbor bridge opened in 1959. My wife was looking over my shoulder watching it and just cracking up! Thanks for sharing........cC

I thought Susie might have gone the way of little Alex Kinter for a few moments there.
