After watching the horrible weather forecasts for Corpus Christi for the week I opted out of both the Jerry B's Lures and the CITGO 3rd Coast Tournament... I have a feeling I may be sorry, but thats OK as I had a personal best size and time to catch em day Very Happy

I woke up un-alarm assisted at about 6 AM, checked the actual weather, radar showed rain offshore, wind at 3. I figured I might have a couple hours before it made it onshore. Loaded the yak for a short ride to somewhere on the ULM getting on the water around 7AM. I started my morning paddling along a shoreline that was showing lots of life. Came up on some really nervous water (no tails) and cast towards the edge of the activity...two or three twitches of a bone Spook JR, and the frenzy begins w/ multiple fish charging and missing! Cast again, twitch twitch....fish on, taking line and giving a good sleigh ride. 26" and an even 8 lbs on the boga! Nice start. Paddle a short distance, a few tails and more nervous water, cast and barely a twitch and it becomes obvious that there is a "herd o' reds" lurking as the water churns as they all try to get it... Again fish on as another big red rips across the water (love the new Calcutta's and braid I'm using now). After a good battle, another comes to the yak at 8.5Lbs and 27". I am thinking I might get home before the rain, and be able to mow the lawn this morning. Again a short paddle until the same "sign" shows, and I catch the baby of the day a 23.5 and 6 LB to cap the stringer. I glance at my watch and it is not even 8AM. It took me 45 minutes to paddle, and about 15-20 minutes to put the icing on the cake. I am still thinking about the incoming weather, so start the paddle for home, making a few cast here and there on the way back. Total time from launch to back on dry land was just over two hours. Got home in time to take the wife to breakfast and then come home and clean fish! Sweet day, though I hope the CITGO tournament is won w/ something over 8.5LBS Shocked

BTW- when I cleaned them they were full of 1" crabs.

Fish on!

In the yak

Not even 8AM...

AWESOME STRINGER!

Would be down this weekend, but had to take the Durango into the shop, and it cost more than I thought to get her running right. Always does, doesn't it? Amazing how they find things to charge you for even when it is warranty work being done... Rolling Eyes

But she is back in action now! Very Happy

I think 8.5 would have gotten you $500 for second. I can't remember exactly, but it may have even been good enough to win $5000. You were close I know for sure.
