A little late, but here's my report from the Port A (South) jetties... First of all I wanted to thank all you dudes (and dudettes) for being my number one resource in all my fishing needs! I've been a stalker for way too long and I finally decided to be a productive member of Corpusfishing.com. I'll be posting a report every time I go fishing from now on, I'm juggling fishing with school so there may be some times where I disappear and at least attempt to study. Nursing school is hell (Alright, bring on the murse jokes!), but fishing really relieves the stress of it all... Okay, now down to business!
Man oh man! Tuesday was honestly one of the funnest times I've had fishing, me and a buddy got there at the butt crack of dawn and made our way to the far end of the south jetties. Things started to heat up a few hrs later, (maybe at around 9ish) with some Kings busting up some bait on the surf side of the jetties. One guy landed a king, didn't get the size, but the rest of the kings were just out of reach of anybody's casting abilities. I loaded up a Krocodile 2oz spoon and hooked up a 22 inch red, then later the Europeans, some call them Spanish Mackerals decided to get on in the fun. I managed the biggest Smack I've ever caught, 25 3/4 inches, (don't forget about the 3/4 inchs!) okay maybe it isn't THAT huge but it was my PB. Soon after that a huge school of reds showed up and were feeding on what appeared to be bait balls of glass minnows? As well as finger mullet. It was crazy, everybody was hooked on a red. By that time I already had a 3/4 oz Rat-L-Trap tied on and the reds absolutely tore it up! It was the closest thing to sight casting that I've ever done. I would see the red turn around and chomp down on my gold crankbait. I soon got my three red limit, my friend nabbed two, and I caught another Smack after the freenzy ended on the same gold Rat-L-Trap.
Here are the fish I caught, notice that I only have TWO reds instead of three, I
can't believe I left one of them out there cause I though it was someone else's. That's one of the worst feelings, thinking that such an awesome creature might spoil out in the hot sun I hope somebody took it once we left.)
Here's my toasty self and the catch I brought home:

There was of course your occasional skipjack here and there but surprisingly not too many. Tarpons had begun to roll in and I had hooked on to one for a few seconds and before I knew it had spit out my hook. We left the fish biting. The only crappy part was that I lost two spoons, a gotcha lure, AND my Rat-L-Trap :/ So I headed to Roy's and loaded up on a couple lures. I actually met some guy there and it turned out to be Tyler! ( never knew how tall he was). Really cool and easy to talk to guy, he told me he was going SBH for some pomps, and it looks like he and his family had a good time.
So I had to tell my girl about how the fishing went, and well, let's just say she was pretty ticked off that she didn't go with me so I had to treat "her" to another trip on Thursday. We got there at around 8:30-9:00 and I could tell right off the bat that it wasn't gonna be as good as the last time. There was quite a bit of weeds on the surf side, the waves were rougher, and the water a bit murkier. Well our luck changed at around 11:00 when our finger mullets began getting their tails chomped off. I decided that we would hook them through the tails vs the top lip, that's what landed us 4 good sized smacks. We could have landed at least 3 more if I would have though of switching the hook to the tail earlier :l Btw, nothing wanted the spoons or any other lure for that matter on this day, I must have casted a few hundred times!
Here she is with the first catch:

I wish I would have taken pictures of the water quality, but here's the best I could find:

We should start a thread on stomach contents BTW, I saw someone post how much they like seeing what's in a fishes belly, and for some odd reason I can't think of many things better! We can play a game of "WHAT'S IN THAT BELLY!?!?" This one's easy:

Yep, you guessed correctly!:

If I end up going to Bob Hall Pier tomorrow I will make sure to post a report. |

Awesome report man! The hike down to the end of that south jetty is a long one, but the rewards can be great. And trust me, the loss of a couple lures to spanish is a small price to pay for a day you'll never forget. Consider it a donation to the fish gods. Thanks for sharing! _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

You're welcome guys, and thanks! The jetty trip turned out pretty good. You kinda underestimate exactly HOW long those jetties are! Especially when you realize that you have to carry your catch aaaalllll the way back lol.
Yea, the experience definitely makes up for the lost lures. |
