I prefer a single-prong stainless steel ultra-sharp gig, but then again I wade when gigging, so barbs and multiple progs really don't offer any advantage.

Straight from the TPWD website

Definition-
Gig
A gig is any hand-held shaft with single or multiple points, barbed or barbless.

I would pull a "Missouri - Show Me" quote on them. Exclamation

Directly from the Outdoor Annual:

Gig - Any hand-held shaft with single or multiple points, barbed or barbless. May be used to take nongame fish only.

Perfectly legal.

I tried to edit this post to add additional information.
Flounder is not listed as a gamefish, therefore you are able to take them with a gig, under the allowable seasons.

A trident with threaded rod for the middle prong is the way I go. A single shaft may not damage as much meat, but when you stick a doormat they are powerful enough to spin around. Not so with a trident so you know where those nasty teeth are at, making it safer to pick then up. Threaded center prong makes for easy attachment to shaft and holds the fish on just right Smile

Some people say my gig is overkill, but id rather worry about getting it off the gig vs. getting it on the gig.
