| I was told by one repairman that using high test gas in outboards and lawn equip. etc. it better than using ethanol free, while others have said the opposite. Anyone have info one way or the other? |

Been told that same thing. Use to do that, and still do, for all my small engines. I.e. - lawn mower, chain saw, weed eater.
Now I just use regular gas, within"Sea Foam" fuel additive. This was suggested to me by a long time commercial fisherman. As much as he is on the water I figure he knows. |

I'm a seafoamer too. Mechanics at work swear by it as well as my mechanic in town. _________________ Fish hard. You never know when you'll make you last trip south. |

Zia pardon the ignorance. Hight test = high octane?
I use the low grade fuel on my outboard but will give it a shot with high octane.
Regards to outdoor power equipment. I've used the echo mix oil for 7 yrs on my echo equipment. Took it to outdoor power equipment for tune up and was introduced to optimax mix oil. 1 pack per gallon no matter the ratio. I burned through a gallon and thought it was ok. Went back to echo oil and needless to say I felt the difference in power and how smooth my equipment ran on the optimax mix oil. I strongly recommend optimax.
Seafoam. Been a big fan as I used to direct inject it on vacuum line. Truck would smoke and then when it cleared it up it would run great. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

Only thing in my line up getting the good stuff is the Harley....might need to try some in boat....but with an 80gal tank that is a little more money....I use stabill and only fill up when I drop below 1/4tank so all gas gets treated. _________________

| Had repair people tell me to use premium with additive like Lucas or Sea Foam to keep from varnishing the fuel system on farm and landscape equipment . I think it might be different for outboards with the ethanol problem. But it could not hurt. |

I had the same C model(mix ur own) Yamaha for 15 years...Disconnected and ran her outta fuel anytime she'd sit more than a couple o days...Pump the primer and she'd start before you could get your finger off the key...don't know if that work with an oil injected engine... |

As gas sits it loses octane rating slowly. For that reason sometimes high octane can be beneficial.
Since alcohols (and oxygenated additives in general) are very high in octane rating, they are popular with refiners for boosting octane. You can bet that high octane gas is just about maxed out in those 2 categories. For that reason if your gas sits high octane fuel can be bad.
So your repairmen are both right...and wrong.
FWIW I run fuel stabilizers 100% of the time and I have not had fuel related problems since...going on 10 years now. Before then, well, not so much! Unfortunately, any more my boat tends to sit for a month at time time, and sometimes 3 over the winter, full of fuel, and I do NOT have any problems with my old Johnson outboard. _________________ Why is it that these days sales people seem to be as honest as I am knowledgeable? |
