Left the marina before first light and headed for the KRS. I had some action back there a few weeks ago, but I haven't been there since. There are only a few boats in the area, probably because of the less than ideal weather conditions . About 1.5 miles down the KRS, I see bait busting the surface along the east side of the gut, so we begin a slow drift. I pick up the first trout, a solid 19". So we decided to anchor up, and that's when the action began. My dad outfished me hands down. He had 3 over 20", the biggest going at 26". Right after the 26", he hooked into a MONSTER trout; this thing was running like the 31" I caught a month ago. I could tell from the way it easily stripped heavy braid off the reel it was definitely either an upper 20's fish or maybe a lower 30's. After 2 minutes of fighting "SNAP"...it spit the hook. Well, at least my dad now has "the one that got away" story!
We picked up a total of 9 fish in that spot on the KRS, but we had to high-tail it north because the rain was coming. We fished the crash channels and caught 7 more trout to 18", until the lightning and heavy showers came. Finally called it quits and headed home
Be safe out there guys!

THE REWARD

| I loved reading your story. Nice mess of fish. Would have been nice to find out what was at the end of your dad's line. Although now you can embellish the story anyway you want. |

Thanks for the great report. That dodging storms can get a bit hairy. Glad you got some nice fish for your efforts. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

We're pretty sure it's a trout since it had the distinctive "headshakes" and it hit the croaker with the distinctive "thump". I could hear the thump and I was on the other side of the boat! _________________ JJ |
