I saw this on the news...and I am having a hard time believing that something like that could happen. I don't remember this ever happening...or would think it could happen. Very sad....

| Will probably never know the truth but the gentleman could have had a medical condition arise and the gators found him after he'd already passed away. At least that's how I'd like to think things happened, went to see the lord while doing what he loved. Prayers up to the family and friends, RIP Mr. Ames. |

What day was he fishing. I posted my catch on the forum last week. We fished several reefs near the area where they are describing. _________________ Take a kid fishing, best investment for them and our future of fishing. |

Sad story but id say you have a better chance of getting vibrio with no wounds than a gator taking you.. _________________

Near as anyone can tell he never came in on Wednesday evening, heard his boat was found near the west shoreline in the Dagger Point area. |

There are some monster gators out there and they seem really active in August.
I didn't see it listed in the article, but a friend of mine works in Seadrift and mentioned they had recovered some shredded wader leg and boot or something. _________________ JJ |

They said they found some body parts. I'm pretty sure he just didn't explode. Sometimes the buddy system can be handy. Thats why my wife likes it when someone goes with me. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Recently, in Mississippi, a 727 lb. alligator was taken. So, yes, those animals can get huge.
This is extrenly difficult for the family. My prayers go out to them. |

I used to paddle into the AWR lakes alone in the dark -- until I ran across a very large gator one day that was longer than my 14' yak.
Got my attention.
The thought of spooking one those big dudes off a nest in the dark while paddling down a narrow creek did not seem wise. |

I have very intimate knowledge of this because I flew on it Sunday morning. We were looking for this guy since Friday night.
If he wasn't eaten initially he was eaten eventually........... Way too many circumstantial things line up to convince anyone who worked this case otherwise.
The game wardens were culling big gators up there at the beginning of this week. I can tell you we saw lots in excess of 10' less than .5 miles from the location where his boat was found.
Truly sad story. |

Truly sad story. | Sad story and one I have never heard before here on the Texas coast. I have never came across one in the back end of Nueces, but I always fish Nueces in the winter time. I'm curious if the water in San Antonio Bay has had a lot of run-off recently or are there always that many large alligators in that bay system. I guess with most of the fresh water ponds dry in the area that they had to find water even if it's salty. |

Always out there. We fish a lot on the Matagorda Island shore across the way, gators all the way out there. Hunting on the Island I stepped on about a 9 footer and he took off and took my feet out from under me. Didn't have a clue what happened until he surface and hissed in front of me. Dog jumped in to take part in the action... everything was chaotic for a min but in the end nobody was hurt, even the gator. _________________ JJ |

I fish san antonio bay quite often. The san antonio river dumps into the bay not far from where his boat was found. I've gone up the river several times and there are TONS of gators in there and some pretty damn big ones. I have also seen them all the way across the bay on matagorda island. The area his boat was found in is right by the wildlife refuge which has several small lakes and ponds that hold gators as well. _________________ Lets's go fishin! |

| It must be very difficult for the family to lose someone so unexpectedly. It's sad to think of the empty spot in their lives. This event makes me evaluate my solo trips and what I could do differently. Prayers for the family. |

| Man I pray this was after the fact and no one ever had to go toe to toe with a gator while wading. My thoughts go out to everyone involved hoping peace is found......We were WAY back in a slew in South Bay SPI and saw a gator a few weeks back. Never seen one there but not surprising. They like any water and any where and this one was super healthy about 7ft. Someone please tell my brother the gators in San Antonio bay south did NOT come from the SA zoo in some big flood 30 years ago ,where they all escaped and are now terrorizing south texas. |
