Fished both late afternoons.

8/16: Just north of the north sticks. Birds working heavily on the 3rd bar when I showed up... jump out with a rod and a heavy silver jig to reach out and touch them. Half swam/jumped/shuffled/prayed to not land on a ray as the swells attempted to push over my head in the gut. Worked the birds for a while, hooking up with lots of ladyfish and spanish macks.

I only brought artificials, so worked the wade gut after moving back closer to shore - eventually catching a broad-shouldered 22" trout and his little brother, around 17" just around sundown on a silver spoon.

8/17: Fished about 7 miles down PINS. Driving was good. Crowds thinned out around the 3 and then more so at the 5. I only brought light rods again and used the same silver spoon as the day before, ending up with one 20" trout.

General conditions both days:
Some tar washing in... lots of dime, nickel and quarter sized but also some larger pieces from 4-6" diameter.

Water clarity: better Friday than Saturday but still good Saturday. Surf was pretty clean both days... green water to the surf.

Jellyfish: A few man o'wars seen on the beach both days... you'd have to probably be pretty unlucky to be hit. Only a couple seen each day.

Weed: Very little... a bit of 'grass' sitting on top of the bars but picked up small pieces of sargassum on only a few casts.

Water temp: I'm not serious enough to wear a thermometer like some tugboat captains Very Happy but it felt about the same as ambient air temps. A couple of cool swells on occasion.

No fish pictures but did take a few Saturday at sundown.

You must alter your shutter speed, and lens opening, when taking your photos. Great effect, and super results, on the outcome.

I was wondering about the surf conditions and fishing. I was thinking about hitting it Wednesday. Thanks for the report

I do... and thank you! These were all exposures in the 1/2 to 1/5 second range. There aren't many ways to incorporate the gulf into sunset shots on our coast line... and our sunsets are some of the best in the country that I've seen.

I can't express how great of a feeling it is to not have to worry about the sargassum weeding out lines! I rarely explicitly target trout in the surf so it was a nice bonus to catch a few.

What's your definition of light? Can I wade out with my 6 1/2' bass setup with 10lb mono?

Absolutely. These were just bay rod spinning outfits for throwing light artificials.

I like a really light spinning rod 7 foot is perfect with 20 pound power pro caught a lot of nice fish with this set up on the surf.
