Hey, here's a video I captured on my security camera up here in San Antonio night before last. Its a pretty big cat, to small to be a lion, much larger than your average house cat. Based on how it compares to my puppies its 25 - 30 lbs. My guess it might be a Jaguarundi. What do you guys think?

Looks like one to me. A lot of folks report those, as black panther sightings if the cat is darker than this one. I wish we could get a closeup on the head.

Could be, you never know what you might find here in Texas. I thought ocelots and jaguarundi were more south towards the coastal areas. Can't really tell if it has spots or not but ocelots do and jaguarundi are solid brown. We have seen a few mountain lions here just north of San Antonio and out in Hondo too. _________________ All fisherman are liars except you and me, and I'm not so sure about you... |

I wasn't aware there was a preserve out there. Either way there a lot of new communities in the area and we are pushing the animals out of their habitat. You should put out a game camera so you can identify it if it comes back. _________________ All fisherman are liars except you and me, and I'm not so sure about you... |

| A friend of mine has twice seen one on his land in Waelder, about 1.5 hours east of SA. Jaguarundi.....maybe they are expanding their population, or technology is just telling us they are there. |

I'm thinking the ultra-rare wooly chupacabra But it does look like a jaguarundi, but it's hard to tell (on my computer) the color. Could it be a young mountain lion? the tail does seem to be a little short for a mtn. lion. |

| I live next to the TPC on a four acre lot. The rancher who used to own all this land lives here in the subdivision. He told me that when he was a kid Mt Lions used to hang out around two huge oak trees that are about 150yds from the house. I guess it could be a small lion and I hope its not. It really looks like a Jaguarundi, but I know how rare those are so I puzzled. I am going to get some cams tonight and put on the back of the lot. I'm really surprised it would go back there. I have 5 dogs and they were all inside that night. |

I put down a measuring tape in the same spot. Its right at 3' 4-5" long not including the tail. I've never seen a house cat that big. It also has a longer neck than you normally see on a cat. The other thing is that we have had almost/all of the outside cats in our area killed over the last 3-4 months. I lost mine and he was tough as nails, all I found was a little hair. We all thought/think it was coyotes.
But I can see where you could/would think its a domesticated cat. It may be and if it is, its the biggest I have ever seen. |
