I needed to head to Roy's to buy a new pair of wire cutters after a shark catapulted my old pair right off the boat on Saturday. I left a little early and figured I would take a look at the surf near Bob Hall Pier. The sun was right in my eyes when I arrived at Bob Hall, but I could tell the surf was clear. It was a little rougher than I had anticipated. I guess the ground swells from offshore were still rolling in. Instead of paying to go take a look I decided to drive over to Packery. It has been awhile since I have been to the "North Packery Jetty" area. I noticed that they have built another parking lot with sun shelters and concrete picnic tables on the section toward the beach. I drove toward the end of the parking lot and made the easy walk to the Jetty's. The water was simply beautiful. The tide was still slowly coming in and I could see lots of mullet working toward the gulf. I tried a couple spots along the channel casting lures with no success. I did see a couple large sheephead coming up shallow near the rocks. There were a few fishermen along the jetty and all had the same answer when I asked if they were catching anything, "No." One guy did say that early that morning someone had caught a keeper trout and a few "Spanish Macks" had also been caught. I did not see anything caught out toward the end and only tried a few casts. I went back to the surf line and threw a few soft plastics around the second bar. I finally caught a small sand trout and called it a morning deciding it was time to go spend some money and get to work tying kingfish leaders.
