I've had 2 LDXs (13' for baitcasters) for several years. I'm guessing about 5 years. In that time, I broke both of them when I hit some low hanging power lines. I went to Nick and he offered to repair the broken tips (about 6-8 inches.) I preferred to get 2 new rod halves. Of course, that breakage was my fault.
A couple of years a ago, one of the rods snapped while casting. It snapped about half way in the middle of the thinner piece. I was able, again, to buy the rod half and be complete again.
Do I think it was a good investment? Oh yes. They are sitting in my garage ready to be taken out to the surf, but there's a small problem. I had surgery on my heel about 3 weeks ago and I can't get my heel wet, nor can I put any weight on it. Doctor tells me it will be 6-8 months from day of surgery before I can walk well again.
Back to the rods. Do I like them and would I buy them again if I had to? That's a big YES. Great investment. _________________ HighTide

Both my spinning rods put together by Nick at Breakaway are versatile surf rods which I use mostly for reds, black drum and pompano but have wrestled in sharks with the rig. Much lighter action than other rods and I would purchase another without any hesitation. I also suggest taking a look at other Breakaway products at Nick's such as the "cannon" a trigger device for those of us who use a spinning reel making the release of the line simple and effortless. _________________ Mike |

I've been using Nicks products for years but I have never bought a rod, I just haven't heard a lot about them from members of the board. Some products sell just because they are expensive and people have something to talk about, just wanting to make sure these rods are worth the money.
Thanks for the Info. _________________ Salad, Salad, everywhere and not a bite to eat. |

I have several rods and one is an LDX from Nick. It outcasts my othr rods by a significant distance. I still have to find a fish to really work this rod, it can handle anything. You should be very happy with one. I do recommend the 13 foot length for distance although I can't cast nearly as far a Nick can.
I saved for several months to buy one and it was worth it for me. _________________ Protect our treasure PINS |

| Nick is a 1st class business man and one funny guy to chat with. I bought a LDX from him last year and its great. I was going to go with a Omega, and he explained to me the LDX was the way to go for what I was wanting to do. Hell, he even put a new tip on my H&H inshore rod that I lost the guide insert out of for free! The LDX is a very light rod for its lenght as well. Worth the money. I also recomend the cannon for anyone using a spinning reel with braid! Its a finger saver. |

One more question, what reels are you using on the LDX rods?

Me too Exactly. Long distance casting with larger plugs.
I have three breakaway rods and I'm extremely happy with them! There are other great rods out there, but I'm very very pleased with Breakaway.
I use Diawa SHA 40's on the two HDX rods and a Diawa Sealine 4000 Spinning reel on the LDX for large plugs.
The equipment is expensive... initially. _________________ Fish hard. You never know when you'll make you last trip south. |

I have a Diawa SHA40 also, is it to large for the LDX? _________________ Salad, Salad, everywhere and not a bite to eat. |
