The parachute idea sounds like a great one.
Here's a 15 ft for $40. Not sure about shipping though:

For those who have used these: how much higher should the side of the parachute upwind be over the side downwind?
Do you need nothing more than the shroud lines and an anchor? Or does it require some support from a post or something?

you can find a little better deal, but not much....
the higher you can tie it, the better....for the 18 foot parachute, we park two vehicles around 15 feet away from each other and tie them to roof racks, headache racks, etc, or roll down the window and tie it to the door frame...
if it's low, we've used flag poles, PVC, and a boat hook to prop the leading edge open.....once inflated, we just use a shovel and scoop some sand into the back edge of the parachute to hold it down....no ropes or additional anchors needed, just a shovel...

the parachutes we get are typically used emergency chutes, 18 feet diameter....they have the drop lines cut off of them, but still have a two feet of cords dropped around the perimeter....

| I have gone through all of the easy and various mechanical shades. The best shade I have found and still use is one from a patio table. It is rectangular umbrella type with a crank to open the cloth type umbrella. I take a post hole digger and dig down about 2 feet. I put in a PVC surf rod holder and pack the sand. Set the shade in the holder and crank it open. It will naturally line up with the wind and will stay put. I have had it in 20 mph with no problem. It covers about a 5 x 8 shade, fits in the suburban. It is way better than an umbrella and you can see them at Loews or Home Depot. |

Where is this resort, and what is the day rate? Hi clouds appear the temps are low to mid 80s? Could be the ample shade. Saawweet!!

wouldn't mind settin' up my camp w/my grill and stove next to there...
biscuts and sausage gravy for bressfuss...
