What's going on guys,

I'm going to be making a trip north to fish streams in Wyoming for Brown trout. A fly rod has been on my list of things to buy for a while and I need to get one soon now. I'd hate to get something just for this trip, so I need to pick something out that I will be able to use in the salt too (mainly in the salt, actually). I'd like it to be a 7 weight.

Any suggestions? I don't want to spend a crazy amount, so let's keep it under $400. If anyone has any reel suggestions with a sealed drag, I'd like to hear them too.

Thanks,
Jeff

Pretty positive I'm going with a TFO Mangrove 7wt. Any suggestions on a reel to pair it with? Mainly using it for redfish and trout. Occasional jack given the opportunity presents itself.

Howdy!

I've heard good things about TFO Mangroves but no personal experience. Same with Lamson Konic and Sage 1800 or 2000 Series reels. Plus they have sealed drag systems and don't break the bank.

TFO's are good. A 7wt. is the perfect fit between fresh and saltwater. Another great real is the Nautilus FWX....I have one on a 6wt. that's worked great in the salt.

I have heard great things about the mangroves aswell, though I have not had the chance to throw one yet. Cant go wrong with TFO at all.

I have a Nautilus FWX and love it. Light, takes drops well, and purty. You can pick a used one up for around 200-250.
