4 tournaments this weekend. the one at bluff landing is the American Petroleum Institute tournament. weigh in 3 p.m.

4??? Wheres the other 2 besides API and Redfish Moron Cup? If that same drove of Redfish Cup tower boats comes buzzing close to me and my wading partner on the ICW in the morning like they did this morning, somebodys gonna be purchasing a new lower unit.

The tower boys were out in full force today. I kind of see a problem with them running the shoreline East of the ICW close enough to throw mud in RFL's. Just about everywhere I went today they were around and I never saw one fish boated despite many stops and starts in some of our shallowest waters, no bueno.

Some of those figure...it's not how you win, it's as long as you win. Not very good sportsmanship. That's why I don't fish tourneys. If I had a tourney they wouldn't be allowed. But then I'm sure there's a lawsuit in there somewhere. Discrimination.........

I honestly would not mind tower boats if they didn't think that they own the water. Keep your distance, respect mother nature, and we won't have problems Rolling Eyes

It has always worked best for me to drift onto a flat, fish it, and then use my shallow draft boat to get up and leave. Run and jump, has not produced very well, but I don't have a tower,

I think most everyone gets it that many of these professional tournament guys mess up tons of fishing for the general public with their so called pre-tournamant "scouting" (not to mention the tournament days themselves). Lots of complaints from everyone, but very little in the way of real action to curtail it. Where will the leadership come from to address these types of irresponsible "wreckreation" issues confronting our bay waters ? TPWD ? CCA ? SEA ? It appears not !
The local Chambers of Commerce are of course highly in favor of these for profit tournaments because they bring some quick money to town. But what about Joe Blow Recreational Fisherman who day in - day out is also paying for his fishing trip with fishing license, bait, tackle, gas, hotels, restaurants , and - if he is a local - ad valorem tax. He does so on a regular basis, and deserves primary consideration.
These tournaments amount to nothing more than - "Private Profit at Public Cost".
I have no problem with tournaments for a good charity cause, but I do take issue with having to turn over OUR public resource to a "for profit" marketing operation (ie: fishing tournament ).

Apparently the guys in the HT Series listened to my warning that I publicly posted on their facebook site. I was sitting in the water at the same spot yesterday morning, and not 1 tournament boat came into the waters or across the flat near us. Alot of people dont understand what the correct way to use a true tower boat is. They are 15ft tall so you can SEE the fish at a far distance IF water/wind conditions permit that, and sneek up to them. If you see a school, its not hard to hook up. Run around the flats like your trying to carve your initials into the bottom, you wont do anything but spook reds away. If the water is dirty, or its windy, it just will not work, so dont waste your fuel. Fishing is a patience game, you have to have them, or your never going to be very good at it.
