Sorry this report is a few days late but finally got a few mins away from work to post
After working non stop the past few weeks I took the weekend off for my birthday to go camping and fishing with my gf and a couple friends up at Calaveras last Friday. Got there that morning around 10 and set out some jugs then proceed to troll rattle traps bc there was no spot on the wall and only ended up with a small blue...
checked the jugs by myself a couple times before everyone got there that afternoon and we set up camp, cooked burgers and decided to take it easy for the night.
Saturday started of slow with the jugs producing less but we got a spot on the wall and a guy next to us gave us some live perch and a red since he was just there for fun and had already caught 8 that morning. I put one on and floated it out on a empty water bottle and it wasn't long before I hooked up with a 29 1/2" beauty...
We fished till noon then went back for lunch then headed to pick up the jugs but came across a couple stranded on a jet ski in the middle of the lake so we hooked up to them and towed them back to the launch. They had been out there floating around for 45 min and no one stopped to see what was wrong, can you believe that? Went back to the camp to grab a little more gas and headed back to the jugs only to see a man dragging his boat against the wind by himself so we tossed him a line and headed back to the launch again lol
Finally we got the jugs picked up and I got a chance to teach my gf how to drive the boat and she was super excited...
We then ran to the store and got some goldfish and frozen shrimp and headed to the wall. Surprisingly no hits on the goldfish at all but the shrimp produced a 21" for my friend and a 30" for me
Action died down for us so we headed in to clean the fish and make some fish tacos for my birthday dinner but first picture time...
At the cleaning table I saw many reds being cleaned with the majority of them being caught on shrimp and crawfish...Wish I could of stayed and fished Sunday but had to hurry home and work on some drawings for upcoming turnarounds but that gave my gf a chance to make some delicious catfish enchiladas
Was a great birthday with some great memories! _________________ A country boy can survive

Glad to see someone out there who takes the time to help others. I've fished Lake Calaveras plenty of time and have hauled in a few boats myself who were stranded. Nice catch also. Need to head out there soon. _________________ wishin i was fishin! |

Both of them offered me money and I said no way just pay it forward...my boat ain't nothing special but it beats dragging one against the wind any day! I can't wait to go back either I just wish I had a little more insight on trolling it plus I want to catch a stripper, never caught one before _________________ A country boy can survive

Happy belated birthday!!! Very nice of you to help the stranded boaters and not accept anything.
Is your gf going to be okay with you catching a stripper? or do you mean a striper? |

Well, in order,
Good Karma for helping others
Girlfriend looks very happy driving the boat. Now, you need to teach her how to handle it going slow.
Nice bunch of fish
Good food
What else is needed but a little more free time?
Happy Birthday! _________________
