| Well, having given up on catching anything on artificials, I grabbed my seldom used cast net and wet out to try and catch some bait. Tried Packery flats just past the bridge....water was so murky you couldn't see anything. In desperation, I threw at some small swirls/ripples, and got two teeny, tiny pinfish, and one shrimp. I've never before gotten shrimp in a cast net. Several more cast produced a handful more shrimp and more tiny pinfish, and one 10 inch red who was set free to grow up. Guess he was chasing the shrimp too. There was only one person fishing on the flats who left soon after I got there, saying no luck. So, I head to packery jetties hoping for finger mullet there. Good news is that there was no new weed coming in there [half full glass]; bad news is that the surf was rough and murky way out past the last sand bar...and no bait visible, only lots of turtles [half empty glass]. Was only one person on the jetty who was leaving as I got there. He said all he caught were a bunch of hardheads. I guess it takes some tough times like these to make us realize how lucky we are most of the time. |

TFTR!! I'm praying it gets better....fast. The first time a caught a shrimp in the cast net I thought it was just a piece of seaweed, until it started kicking. _________________ Stinger-A |

I bet the flat was covered in shrimp. Would have been a good time to drag a small net. Oneday i will be retired and I'm looking foward to it. Good post fishinglady. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |
