Im lookin for a used tacoma and I was wondering if yall thought a 4cyl might be enough for pins. Or if I should go 6?

I ran pins with a 4cyl 4runner for forever and never got any where close to being stuck

Power and torque have nothing to do with it friend. In low range even a 4 cylinder will pull a good stump! Good driving skills, common sense, sobriety and keeping the old testosterone in check can and will allow folks with two wheel drive or low power to go where many 4x4's get planted!!! Wink

I own a 2011 Tacoma 4x4 SR5 Access Cab, and it has WAY more power than I've ever needed or used, and the extra 2 bangers only serve to drink more gas.

I would go with the V6 If you have the choice.

If you add any tires with any size and have fat buddies ridding with you like I do you will need it.

I have a 2003 crew cab Tacoma with a V6. It does everything I need but I would not consider it over powered by any means.

The V6 makes life a little easier when you have a lot of gear and buddies for overnight camping. Also, I believe the V6 does have a better stock suspension package as well.

those are great little trucks. I just got one after having Fords for the last 27 years, and I love it. Also, I replaced my stock suspension set up specifically to deal with the added weight of gear and passengers on PINS. It does not increase the load rating, but it drives much better and the back end is not so low as with stock.

If you are just a day tripper, go with the 4 banger. Or check out tacoma world forums, lot of expertise over there.

Is it going to be a daily driver, or just a beach cruiser? My 1999 v6 taco gets pretty crappy gas mileage, but the only time I drive it is when I'm running the beach or hunting. In that scenario, hauling people and gear and whatnot, the added power and not having to shift in and out of 4low all the time is worth the gas, to me. If it were a daily driver, I might think differently.
