Fairly dense fog has descended on the laguna/backyard.

Thought about heading out in the kayak today, but with the dense fog, a weekend, and a tournament going on, I decided against it. No need to make myself a speedbump!

Looks like you may have made a smart decision. I'm hearing there was accident about an hour ago where a tournament boat was hit by a guide boat in the lagoon. Tournament boat was idling up to a spot and was t boned by the guide boat, at least one tournament guy was ejected from the boat. Coast guard just pick up one of the anglers to carry him to the hospital, sounds like it's still a active seen out on the water. Prayers for all involved.

I sure hope everyone is OK, I never like to hear about news like this... but it does happen from time to time.... Prayers are with all parties involved in accident.

Injury's are non life threatening so that is great news, the guide boat had 3 clients on board and none of them appeared to be injured. Sounds like things are going to get sticky for the "guide" if what I'm being told is true. The boats are in bad shape but those can be replaced, just glad know one was severally injured or even killed.

Scary stuff. My boat stays parked if its foggy. GPS dont tell you where other boats are.

From what I hear, the tournament boat was heading north on the west side of the channel and the guide was heading south on the west side. Both were on plane. In dense fog, common sense tells you to slow down and stay right. Obviously, the lake and bay was not on the right side. I can't remember what the rules of the road says about passing in channels, but I'm almost sure it says to stay to the right. The clients on board were bruised up a little but are alright. The tournament angler may have a broken arm. I can't believe the tournament organizer let them launch in the fog. The Redfish Cup and the FLW never let us go until the fog lifted.

The rule is pass port to port.
I talked with the guide and both skippers turned to the left. PORT.
Looks like it going to be a little sticky for the tournament fisherman, I can't understand why either skipper or for that matter anyone would think they could run in the for with a GPS...... Rolling Eyes
It's not radar.

I hear you on the fog. I am guilty of it and I don't think my or my son's life is worth it. I believe I will be staying in on foggy mornings.

anyone know names of the Rudys Redfish Tournament Anglers involved in this mornings accident? Hope lessons learned on allowing/releasing tounament anglers in the fog especially with the horse power of some of these boats that can run up in speeds of 65+mph. Not sure how the weather was in Port Aransas as this was where the tournament was being held.

We had reduced visibility in Port A all morning...

The driver of the tournament posted on his FB that they were not on plane but just idling up to a spot when they were hit. I guess it will be up to the authorities to sort out, was also told the guide didn't have any insurance which seems hard to believe your allowed to guide without any. The angler that went into the water very well could have lost his life if not for the tournament requirement that all anglers have a pfd on while the motor is running, as soon as he hit the water his waders filled up with water. FYI, The tournament director did hold the field back in Port A this morning until the fog had lifted there and he felt it was safe to travel, I'm sure everyone here has seen how the denseness of fog can change in areas as small as a single bay so there's really no way to tell the conditions of the areas all the competitors could have been running to, that's where personal responsibility should take over in my opinion. The angler that went to hospital didn't end up with a broken arm just some really bad bruising, I'm just glad no one was hurt any worse or even killed.

Amen thank goodness no fatalties in this accident. I know several of the local full time guides that carry insurance. Expecially in the guides business its a no brainer to carry insurance especially for protecting (the guide and his/her clients). If its true that the guide did not have insurance, its not going to be pretty. I feel for the guide especially if he was at fault. not sure who would be at fault in something like this. Who was ticketed???

Anyone know how dense the fog was? Was it the kind where you can hardly see the bow in front of you? I still remember the first time I went out in that stuff, almost got hit by a boat following my wake.

No fish is worth a life or even an injury.
