I agree with that. A more comprehensive article is found at:

Seems they saw the shark feeding and foul hooked it on purpose. They bit off more than they could chew so the 45 ft boat came in and used two flying gaffs to subdue the beast. About as much sport as shooting fish in a barrel and no I'm not a shark lover.

I'll be the first to admit that this subject should not have been posted. At the time I could pull up no information about it on the net. All I had was the information from the ticker on MSNBC and thought it would be fun. You are all correct in saying, "What a Shame."

And when I say that, It is only because it had been purposefuly snagged, not because it was caught/landed and with the assistance of another/larger boat, I hope someone would help me in a case like this and share the record with me.

For that reason this fish will not be considered a record. I can't believe that its legal to "snag" a giant shark and reel it in using a bunch of gaffs and another boat.

I believe that is why the IGFA is "investigating it", "snagged" a game fish. Last year the record hammerhead was landed with use of other boats, but all were same type of flat boats, that legally used a stingray as bait to hook the fish, and only the crew of the fishing boat used a gaff on the fish. There was also a Record Mako caught during a shark tourney, (which is weigh your biggest shark weighed in dead over 300#), in '01. But that boat gaffed (which broke) then was able to tail rope the fish and get it back to weigh-in on thier own. I guess it is all about the ethics now. Hope to be fishing with you all soon.
