|
|
I'm going to have to change my name on this site. The Slam is not complete without a flounder. Although, we took a Bayslammin' today in that chop. Fished with my brother and cousin Doug from Austin today (ULM). Slow numbers day ( for keepers) but I did manage to catch two decent fish and a bunch of small trout. Leighton and Doug stayed busy as well. Bite was pretty good all day...Small Trout. Did I mention it was WINDY? Yes, I took some fish home and cleaned them for Doug to take back to Austin. Boats and fishermen are out in full force. Caught the only redfish of the day on a pink corky. last month I caught a big flounder on the pink corky and the list goes on. What an awesome lure! I am not sure if fish are as spooky as most people say. I know some wade fishermen who will leave a spot after one boat runs across thier wade. I am sure that boat traffic has some negative impact on fishing. This past weekend was as crowded as I have seen the water all year. I was spoiled by having the bay to myself it seemed all winter and early spring. I would see a boat now and then but they were scattered out. This weekend I was wading a spot at the mouth of Baffin and after catching a few fish I had three boats on top of me. When I say on top of me, I mean casting distance. It is to be expected and I will have to get used to it again. I don't see how the KRS can be as productive on a Saturday with so many boats burning the shoreline. _________________ Grind |

| I have wondered why people call it a "slam" or grand slam. I have always heard it was the texas triple. A Slam consists of four not three. Just wondering why. |

My grandfather used to tell me that he missed the day of catching a Texas Slam, and that was catching a speck, a redfish, a tarpon, and a snook.
He caught many slams in his day. He always said reds were harder to come by that snook or tarpon in those days, and during the summer, the tarpon were so thick you almost couldn't go fishing without catching at least one!
Ah, we dream it might be that way again someday! _________________ GOBZA!!!

Inshore slam, Texas Slam.... Whatever species of fish you include in the SLAM, it's sure fun when you get one. I will stick to a trout, red and flounder in one trip. Good luck on getting yours. _________________ Grind |
