They supply all tackle so you just need your rods if you wish to bring them.

Is this a charted 24 hr tuna trip? if it is you should be able to use any kind of line you want. DSH 24 hr tuna trips are during Jan, Feb, and Mar. I don't recall they go tuna fishing when summer is about to start.

You can bring braid if you want. They very much prefer you fish with mono because lines get tangled on party boats all the time and mono is 1000 times easier to get untangled. Braid is so small when wrapped in other peoples lines, it will get cut first by the deckhand, especially if the person tangled in braid has a fish. Also, braid cuts mono. During a good tuna or kingfish bite, when the fish go left and right, the braided line will often cut the mono line when rubbing on them especially when two fish are pulling them tight. Mono will rub mono just fine if the diameters are similar. As a general rule, smaller diameter cuts larger diameter. Also, it is fairly common for lines to get caught in the prop of party boats. It's bad, but braid in the prop is especially bad and will damage the packing which could cause a leak. Those are the reasons why the crew on party boats hates braided line. If you are an experienced fisherman who knows how to follow your fish and go over/under people etc. it's no problem. However, sometimes you can't avoid the inexperienced fisherman next to you.

Deep Sea Headquarters will have everything you need, but if you want to bring some shinny blackfin jigs, you can. Your expensive topwaters will probably not get used and most of the AJ fishing will be with baits, but bring your knife jigs if that's how you like catching them. The best thing you can bring to help you catch something special is a $50 or $100 bill. Give it to the main deckhand as yall are leaving the Port A jetties. Tell him to hook you up if he gets the chance. In May there should be plenty of Ling, so mention that to the deckhand too. When Ling are swimming around, the deckhands will go poo poo crazy and will most likely hook all of the Ling which get site casted. Also, don't be a turkey and go to sleep in the middle of the night. Sometimes you have to work hard for those fish and you can sleep when you get home.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the responses. It's march 30th not may sorry for the typo. I've been fishing with braid for years and know how to shuffle with other anglers so that shouldn't be a problem. Also have about 30-50ft of mono topshot on that spinner so by the time the fish is to the boat it will be mono.

Don't do it-you will screw everyone up. You will be chunking a lot at night for tuna. You will be drifting and slowly letting line out. Now braid has a different drift rate than mono and does not sink like mono, so you will tangle everyone. That is why they say no braid. Seen it happen a bunch.

On a side note, I love braid and use it wherever possible. This is the one exception.

Hope this helps.

I'm jealous! A overnight tuna trip is on my bucket list of things I still need to do. Hopefully one day I will make it happen. Hope you have a great trip!

Watch the weather closely. It's usually a windy sob that time of the year. If prone to sea sickness, take dramamine THE NIGHT BEFORE.

x2 on tipping the deckhand(s) and leave the poppers at home. You won't be fishing for yellowfin on a 24 hour trip. Focus on jigs for blackfin, aj's and grouper (read: cpr'ing lots of hoss red snapper).

Consider bringing your own bait. Last time I went out the bait was so mushy I couldn't keep it on the hook. Must have been thawed and refrozen several times. Next time I get some mullet the nite before and bring my own cut bait.

I was there on the 9th for a 8hr trip. Were you on that boat? If so I was the guy who was in the cabin the last half of the trip, lol. When I was fishing I was fishing for the sharks on the port side near the bow. When I was in the cabin I was on the port side at the back with the camo hat on.
