What's the old saying about what happens when government gets involved in something besides government?

I've got $5 (on a budget and need as much money as I can for fishing lol) that says it aint going to go well for them after a while and their business will only be from tourists and possibly a few locals but the rest are going to find another spot or start fishing the beach.

If you want more people to use the thing all you have to to do is.............make it longer.....like it was when I was a kid.....on a Saturday night you had to get there early to get a spot

I think it's laughable that they report that the concessions make over $100,000 every year. If they are racking in so much dough, why is it that they can't keep anyone in there to run the concessions? Hmmmm.

It has been longer on a number of occasions. But Mother Nature has taken care of that [repeatedly]. Good to know that the County can trump Mother Nature and make this a $$$ making venture. I can't wait for my next Property Tax bill to come in the mail. Taxes might go down enough that I might get a refund, based on the rosy picture presented in the story!!!! Laughing Laughing

If pier prices go up dramatically i will never fish the pier again. I would use the money i would have spent to get on for gas and just hit pins. Raising the prices is stupid logic in my mind but this is the government we are dealing with.... they never get it wrong

I've never fished the pier because I love the beach too much! Seems to me that the people using the pier now won't like the change. Guess we will just have to wait and see! <*/)))><

Personally it doesn't change my fishing...I go fishing to get away from people, not rub elbows with them.

All in all, though, I think there are very VERY few things the .gov (on any level) can do better than private industry, and run a business like a fishing pier is definitely in that category.

While likely small, I too wonder what impact this will have on county coffers and thereby my property tax bill.
