| I know i'm a little off asking freshwater questions, but I am wondering and wanting to know if there is any current information about this years run? My best friend moved to Costa Rica and now I'm without my fishing buddy. I'll live, but would like to know when the run is going to begin. Anyone know anything yet? I think i'm a little early, but needed to start the ball rolling! <*/)))>< |

If I remember correctly, the white bass are running in the lakes. Didn't know we had white bass in the Nueces. I've lived here for 5yrs on the Nueces and ain't caught a single one in my backyard. _________________ Jacob McDonald

We used to target them north of Lake Corpus Christi close to Three Rivers. I believe that those species that migrate into a river to spawn would migrate up river from the respective lake. My guess would also be that they might have a problem swimming very far up river because of lack of decent rain. |

Howdy!
I don't know anything about the Nueces, but I'm from San Antonio too and have caught hybrids/whites out of the Medina River not too far from us. I fish from my kayak and am always looking for new people to fish with. Also, you might want to check out TexasKayakFisherman forum. They have a freshwater section and there are a number of threads about the whites running; people from all over Texas so it's a really good resource to check out. |

Clint, do you usually launch from the park in Bandera? I used to bowfish right below the dam before they rebuilt the base about 6yrs ago. Pulled out a bunch of 4ft-5ft needlenose gar. At times you can find a few largemouth under the falls. _________________ Jacob McDonald

I walked the dry lake bed around my parent's house a couple of weeks ago. I gotta wonder how many white bass are left in lake CC. I grew up catching them by the boatload there.
That said, IIRC they start running to spawn around March. I bet spring rain and temperatures trigger it more than the calender. _________________ Why is it that these days sales people seem to be as honest as I am knowledgeable? |

| I fished the Nueces north of the lake last weekend out of my kayak. River as low as it was last year. Caught one male. Hopefully the females will make it up soon but weather pattern this past year might impact the run this year. |

| Hey FishinClint! Sounds like an invite to me. PM me and we will talk about doing just that. Maybe we can fish both when the times are right and load up on those white bass! <*/)))>< |

Any navigable water is open to the public, land owners cant say crap to you about you fishing the river in your boat. Same with the lake. I know this because I have fished many bowfishing tournaments and a couple of times we have had to call the game warden to have him talk to the land owners and explain to them the laws. Plus informed them about the law against harassing a sportsman. _________________ Jacob McDonald

| Exactly...but that doesn't stop disgruntled and/or ignorant landowners (and sometimes law enforcement) from trying to run you off. It's happened to me several times too. I just follow the laws, remain polite, and enjoy my rights. I even started to carry a printed copy of that court ruling/document just in case. Let them be angry over nothing. Plus, I do them a favor by picking up other peoples trash in an effort to leave the area better than when I arrived. |

This is what ALL sportsman should do. When I first started hunting with my grandpa at the age of 10 at the dove lease, I would always pick up any spent shells, put them in a bag, and throw them away in the trash can by the gate. Even if the shells weren't mine I would still pick them up. Every time I shot, after picking up the downed bird and reloading my shotgun, I would pick up my shells and put them in the lid of my box. When I'm fishing I pick up trash, leaders, line, etc, and dispose of them properly. Usually leaders get salvaged for parts tho, lol. If its something I use on my leaders, I keep it, the rest I throw away. But if its a good leader, I'll keep it and use it for bait fish, lol.
(Sorry for the hijack, but this to me was a subject that should get touched up on from time to time.) _________________ Jacob McDonald

White bass run when water temps hit around 58. They say that when the redwoods bloom, the sand bass run is on. _________________ Empty vessels make the most noise |

Thats the temp we were always waiting for on the gaudalupe...or some would say, when the peach trees blossomed. _________________ SOUTHERN CUSTOMS
