Never had the boat in the Laguna before but a friend of mine (you know who you are you dirty rat Laughing feel free to jump in here) got us access to a cabin down there South of Bird Island launch. I would imagine most fishing will be done under the lights but we will want to venture out as well I'm sure.

I run a 21' Carolina Skiff (DLV hull) with no jack plate so it's not exactly a shallow water rig, but it does float kinda skinny, more so than my old Sea Fox Bayfisher did.

I would like to know if there are any areas/locations that I need to avoid, common navigation hazards and all that. Oh yeah and I need to know where all the fish are too. Laughing

This is a one-time trip so feel free to PM me your honey hole coordinates as I doubt I'll be back for another 5-6 years at this pace. Embarassed

All kidding aside, any help is appreciated.

Am I to assume fishing drop-offs and such is a good starting point? I don't think any pf us cares what kinds of fish we catch as long as something edible is pulling on the line. I'm stocked with tons of soft plastics, but the wife loves to start with live or dead shrimp and will switch to plastics when she finds fish. We don't mind hopping out of the boat for a wade also if necessary.

King Ranch Shoreline. Look for moving bait, birds working, and slicks. Generally green water is best. That does not mean clear. Fishing, is oft times hunting, in the Laguna Madre.
Good luck, your bound to do well under the lights.

Without being there and no map all I can tell ya is run where you can't see the bottom. Fish the edges of the ICW and work those lights at night. Have a great time.

Agree with IMS, ICW drop offs can be great. Talk to some of the guys at the Marina's. I have some buddies at Marker 37, they'll probably help ya if you ask. Finally, academy sells maps (you may have one)

Good Luck and Be safe!

Yes, but you have to lean forward with your arms straight out to the sides while running straight.

Yeah out East in the muddy bottoms I get a little more adventurous. It usually goes like this... "Hey that looks pretty shallow, I wonder if we can get in there." "I dunno, looks like mud, let's get up on plane and find out." Then there's a sudden stop. "Nope, couldn't make it. Good thing we have the teenager with us who can squat a thousand million pounds and get the boat out."
Laughing

Now THAT sounds like a great time. You and I can kick back and crack open a cold one. I'm the captain, so I have to steer anyway. Razz

Hey Kurt, I flew by that sign in your avatar pulling the boat yesterday around 65 mph. I was texting and didn't realize the speed limit dropped. Laughing

lol OK I'm not serious ^ Laughing

I guess nobody's going to bother looking up the coordinates, thought it would be funny to post up the coordinates to the Cheetah and see if anybody recognized it. Ah well failed joke. Is it Friday yet?
