Hey guys,
I went out for a drive last Sunday to the area between Bob Hall and PINS. Really just to see how the driving is since I have a 2wd Tacoma and the driving was great and my truck made it with no problem. I didn't do any surf fishing but I plan to this Sunday, probably.

I have most of my gear ready but wanted to know if that area is really a good place to surf fish or should I go into PINS and see how I can do there? I have yet to drive into PINS....(yes...I know...shame on me...) Not looking for sharks but some good fish. Also, I am hoping to get some live mullet off the shore as well. I am taking some dead shrimp as well as some fish bites.

Anybody fish this area recently? And good stuff? Any good bait running along this area recently? And is this an area where I can find some "ghost shrimp"?

Pompano were pretty decent last week around 5 miles down on shrimp/fish bites combo. Managed a 24" drum too.

Yes, SBH is a good place to fish. I saw recent reports where a few bull reds and pompano were caught along with blue fish and whiting.. i think that they were all caught on shrimp/fishbite combos. I dont think mullet even got touched. And i think that mullet was hard to come by. You should be able to get some ghost shrimp there also. If i get a chance i wanna go sunday too but dont think i will be able to make it. Good luck and post up a report!

I fish there all the time and it could be good. Surf today however was running 4'-7'. Shrimp/fishbites for pomps and whiting. Cut whiting for reds and blues.

Driving is good all the way to the PINS boundary.(7Miles). Used to be 2 openings through the bollards but there is only 1 now. Sand is real soft through there. Can be hairy in 2wd.

I am guessing when you guys post here that you were at "SBH" you are meaning that you are in between Bob Hall and PINS....

Also, I am planning to take my waders but it looks like the wind will not be that tough so I am hoping to just cast from the edge and not have to wear them....hopefully.

Just a quick update on surf conditions. Today there were 9 ft seas and the water looks like chocolate milk. She should lay down a little this weekend but, the water clarity could take some time to improve. You can still catch drum in these conditions but pomps are sight feeders and require clear water to feed. If you get a chance to spend some time down the beach, go!!! Jeff

Learn to read the surf, like picking up flint flakes around an old burnt rock campfire,,broken points and semi finished arrowheads in the Hill Country, look for wash outs, in the first and second guts,bait activity, and birds working the area. They birds might be floating on the water, or on shore waiting for the next school of bait to run the gut. I hear the naked men are south of B.H.P in Kleberg County line area past the 153 markers. I would fish any where but around these rejects from society they may want a cold one !

It's hit and miss out there. Early morning seems to produce the biggest fish near the shore for me. As the day progresses you have to get your baits out past the second and third bars. Biggest fish I've caught came from out there. Watch out for the sea grass underneath the surface because it can be very thick at times.

Never had any problems with "naked men, women or jay-birds" anywhere in that area. Over the years best luck for me has been halfway between parking lot(paved) at Bob Hall and about halfway down to the North Sticks. I have also caught some good fish about 100yds up(North) from the bollards or North Sticks as the road ends before turning onto pavement back towards the pavement. I have parked at the North Sticks and walked a ways South onto the pedestrian beach area but never had much luck there. Many fish the area right out straight from the North Sticks and wade up and down from there.
As stated previously, driving can be somewhat hairy depending on traffic but I only have 2wd and have not gotten stuck...yet...knock on my grandkid's heads!!!!
