Why teach people how to identify the Blacktip. Instead of taking it away from everyone.

Mine as well say that we can't keep them anymore. 8' Blacktips are fairly rare. This will just be the latest hit to the charter boat business.

I understand the Silky/Dusky mistake, but a Blacktip and a Dusky look NOTHING alike. I think what they are really trying to say is that fisherman are idiots. Has anyone here accidentally misidentified a Dusky by calling it a Blacktip? I seriously doubt it!

Am I the only one who thinks this is totally ridiculous? And why wouldn't they include the Spinner Shark too? Those get mistaken for Blacktip Sharks all the time.

I want a refund for whatever they paid people to come up with this crap!

I should add that I CPR all my sharks from the beach, but I see nothing wrong with harvesting a Blacktip when your customer gets to go offshore once in a blue moon.

Interesting?????

My copy of the Fishes of the Gulf of Mexico (McEachran and Fechhelm, Vol 1) lists the blacktip as reaching a maximum known size of around 225 cm. That converts to a little less than 7 1/2 feet?? Confused

The Texas state record for this species is 97" = 8.08 feet. Hoese and Moore (older book by the same name - pretty much the first Bible of GOM fish) lists them as reaching 8 feet.

So just to keep 1, you would need to just about set a record?

WOW!!! Shocked

Might as just well add them to the prohibited list, because this proposed Rule change would have pretty much the same effect.
