More and more sheepshead are showing up in my mangrove snapper honey holes every day but I can't seem to catch one. I've been using live shrimp most days but have also tried fresh dead and they ignore both. Any advice?

Thanks

Scrape uh-nem-uh-knees (I can't spell it or pronounce it... Ha!) off the side of the jetties or anywhere you can find em! It's like candy for them. My pops taught me that trick my first trip down the the Mansfield jetties and I stayed out till dark just reeling em in. I think some people call em hog eyes. Just my $.02!!

I considered shooting them with the spear gun but I don't necessarily want to kill them, just catch a few for the heck of it. Appreciate the tips guys

Kudos to you for not wanting to kill them. They are tasty but theyre also fun to catch on rod and reel. IF you can see them, take a fingernail size piece of shrimp on a small but strong hook and sight cast to them. If you cant, fiddler crabs or fiddler crab flies work good. Shrimp might get terrorized by pinfish if you arent sight casting to the sheepies.

Fiddlers on a #6 treble... you can usually find 'em on the beach at sunrise (I especially like under the shack at BHP)...

Ghost shrimp are what I use. I put a small hook and a split shot on my line and fish just off of the rocks at the jetties.

Howdy!

My girlfriend and I had success in Galveston using hermit crabs. Easy to catch but take a hammer or something to break them out of the shell.
