I know the one in gregory is still awesome. No electric smoker there! No rubbery meat there! Just good ol BBQ greatness!

Mine was meant towards the one on Alameda. Never been to the one in Gregory.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer on Howard's but we used to get catered from there on Saturdays. Key word being "used". The last time they brought one of the catering vans over, hundreds (literally hundreds) of roaches started fleeing once they opened the doors. Needless to say, none of the employees have eaten there since. I'm sure their restaurant is cleaner, but that was a little much for any of us to stomach. I'm all for the BBQ man on I 37 though. Had our Christmas party over there a couple years back and it was good.

Back to the mention of Howards. Those are definitely great vintage fishing photos. Norman Howard, Wayne McBee and several others out on Bob Hall. By the way, FYI, Norman doesn't own the BBQ place anymore. ...cC

Ya know cC that is the only place I remember seeing the picture of
Bill Weekley and Dave Hopkins with those two giant hammerhead caught back to back on the North Jetty. Those two fish were giants.

All the aforementioned BBQ places have their good days. I've always gone for the most consistent. For me, Mac's in Gregory has the most consistent quality BBQ. Miller's is also very good. Rudy's is good. Bill Miller's is OK, but being only a couple minutes away from work I eat it more than I do any other. I need to try the BBQ Man in 37 though. I also think Mac's BBQ Sauce is better than any other, including Rudy's.

BBQ varies widly from region to region. Had a buddy who moved to N Car. and he hated their BBQ. Some areas like beef (and various cuts of) others will favor pork. Some like the rubs and others marinate, or a combination. All impart their own particular flavor. As seen from all the posts taste varies. South Texas BBQ is tough to beat but I had some real good BBQ in Memphis.

The worst BBQ that I ever had was at "Pancho's"' in Missouri. Thought we where getting Mexican food but everything tasted like BBQ.

Gotta agree with ThrillinSTX. With so many legitimate choices, who in their right mind would go to Bill Miller's? The ladies in my office do it all the time but, then again, they have the culinary palates of feral mules!

Being from the hill country nobody can cook bbq down here. Go to Cooper's in Llano if you want bbq(not cooper's in other towns, in Llano, the original). Find something else to eat down here or cook bbq yourself thats better than anything down here anyways. Plenty of great food just not any good bbq! Love the ceviche down here though. Mahi in South Padre makes me want to cry for not eating it every day.
