Is there any particular reason why people go to the PINS area for Pomp fishing. Is there something special about the structure there vs. the surf on both sides of Bob Hall Pier? _________________ HighTide

I've had great luck with pomps in the surf period. But I believe people like the PINS due to the amount of beach front there is to fish. With all the miles the PINS has to offer there are bound to be more structures/pinches. Just my two cents. _________________ Stinger-A |

Ditto with Stinger pins is just a great place to be and fish. More chances for structure further down as well. _________________ Protect our treasure PINS |

I know a lot of people wait for the swells to flatline before going out and chasing the Pomps. That just makes it easier for the fisherman, right? I suspect the fish are still out there. _________________ HighTide

I'm definately no expert when it comes to Pomp fishing. I did catch 12 about two weeks ago in the Port A surf. From my experience and reading on here they prefer calm clear water(refered to here as Pomp Window). They are usually in the second gut. Small hooks with fishbites and/or shrimp works best. _________________ Life is Good |

I've seen them caught in offcolor or dirty water but not like when it is calm and the water is clear.
There is an article in Texas Saltwater Fishing that was done in Port O'Connor at the Pass. They caught them in dirty water one day last summer because they stopped and fish for them with live shrimp when they saw a couple jumping their wake as they were cruising through.
Also HighTide, on PINS sometimes it is easier to reach the pompano due to the deeper water in closer such as near the 18 mile mark etc.
I caught 6 with my dad just north of the sticks on Halloween but they were WAAAAAAAAAAY out there. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Fish Pass can be a great place. All depends on the conditions, though.
