Thinking about taking the kayak out this weekend but not sure yet. Anyone think it will be worth it. I'd be fishing Aransas pass area. Hate to make the drive for the weekend if its not worth it.[/quote]

Nothing beats a day of fishing....so its always worth it.
And the weather will be just right as well....just enough wind to stir up some bait....and keep the bigger ones biting.
Good luck..... Cool

North winds can really take the water out of many of the Aransas fishing areas. We've had like 4 days of northern winds. I wonder how the water level looks down there.

Wierd things going on with these NE winds. Coastal flood advisories at high tides on the Gulf beaches, lots of water up in the flats and rather chilly. Went out yesterday and had to hunt to find some drum. Few reds/trout being caught with some fisherman running out towards Port A jetties and Lydia Ann area. What few fishermen we saw and a couple of hunters were trying to beat the wind hugging the Sailboat and Shrimpboat channel shorelines.

Would it be best to pass this weekend and try another time? Y'all are really making me doubt the trip. Haha. Still expecting NE winds tomorrow?

Unless it is a financial or limited vacation days situation its always worth the trip. worst case scenario and you can't fish the pass then take the short trip to Port A and catch the bull reds off the tip of the south jetty. Laughing

Are the reds around the jetties right now in PA?

Anyone have some advice on where I could take the kayak in the morning if the winds stay down? I'm not the strongest paddler in the world but I'd like to get on a few fish (just like everyone else, I guess). Even if its 1 keeper I would be thrilled! Haha.

Try Sailboat Channel off of 361 across the road from Tarpon Shores Marina(old Crabman). Easy paddle up to the T and hang a right out to the gas well. Might hold reds or black drum depending on tides...usually better with outgoing or lower tides but you never can tell. Or instead of hanging a right paddle straight out to where the channel flows into Brown and Root flats and fish for reds...again depending on tides.
Should be the usual crowds at Lighthouse Lakes trails in the same area or head on down to the 361 HW apron on the E side of the Fin and Feather bridge and launch there. You will probably see other kayakers there launching right under the power lines that run E and W along that channel. I sometimes have found fish on the E side of the spoil island that runs N to S across from Conn Brown. You can launch right next to the Welcome to AP sign and access those flats and little islands just across the channel. There have been issues in the past about vehicles being broken into there but have not seen any such reports lately. Do not leave valuables in the vehicle or anything that might entice someone to break in.

Ditto on all those suggestions. And Nueses bay has been hot. Launch from the Yak Shack...they will help you out on where the good spots are...they are good people...

Get on road from Portland to Corpus and look to the right(opposite side of road from Indian Point Pier) and you will see the YakShack right next to the new wetlands area. You can launch there along that shoreline or go into the YakShack and ask them about launching around their building. That whole area out there is Nueces Bay. Or head on down towards the Harbor Bridge and right before heading up it you will see a sign that says "Joe Fulton 'Corridor". That road runs alongside the S side of Nueces Bay all the way past refinery row up to Calallen. ' You can launch there along various points but same cautions apply for leaving unattended vehicles.
