I'm reserving this spot for a photo of my first bull red. I've caught them in the slot before, but never one over. The family and I are heading south tomorrow morning for a week on the beach. Hopefully I'll have photos and reports to post here throughout the week. Good luck to everyone else out this week and hope you guys have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Good luck. I had a big hit last week that had me running into the water to grab my rod.

I was able to save the rod, but lost the fish.

We hit the surf for a few hours Sunday morning. Waves were light and hardly any weed. We soaked some shrimp, ghost shrimp and cut whiting. Water was a bit cold and didn't try catching any mullet. Didn't see many either. We fished for about 3 hours and caught about a dozen whiting and 3 sting rays. Had more fun with the kiddos sucking up ghost shrimp. Had a couple of nice hits on cut whiting, but never hooked up. Picked up some Fishbites last night and gonna give it a try again in a few hours. Family is sleeping and I'm trying to get some work done. Here's a quick photo of our catch so far.

Caught about 20 more whiting and another sting ray this morning. The bite was on for about an hour and then they left. The kiddos were wearing me out. As soon as I'd get a rod set and in the rod holder, another would get hit. They were running a lot smaller today and kept several for cut bait. May hit HC Pier later today in hopes of finding that ellusive bull red.

Never made it to HC Pier yesterday. Hit the surf this morning just north of Fish Pass jetties. No telling how many whiting the kiddos caught. Kept 15 nice ones for another fish fry. Also caught 2 small pomps. The redfish are still hiding from me. I put out a couple of rods with cut whiting and mullet, but couldn't buy a decent bite. Kiddos and wife are worn out. May try the pier this evening running solo.

I hit HC pier yesterday morning with both kiddos in tow. Morning trip produced lots of small pomps and 2 rays about the size of trask can lids. Kept a few of the bigger pomps and one of the rays got a kayak trip out to deeper water from one of the fellas on the end. Trip and I went back in the evening still looking for that bull red. Never got the redfish, but Trip caught his very first shark. We lost another one while trying to pull it up by the line. A couple of head-shakes and the 50 lb. test leader was history.
