Even though it was REALLY windy we went out there and braved the wind.

Aside from getting a face full of sand and catching four sand trout, we didn't have luck. When we got there, the guy to the right was pulling in a bull red. Later the guy to our left caught a smaller slot red on dead shrimp. Didn't have any takers for live shad or mullet. Saw a lot of hardheads caught.

It was high tide and the surf was crazy. The waves were crashing over the rocks on the jetties so we were set up farther in, fishing in the channel. Around noon, the tide rose all the way to the parked vehicles and everyone had to go move farther upshore.

One of the sand trout I caught was 15 inches... I just looked online and it said the average silver trout is 10 inches and sand trout don't typically get larger than 12 inches. Has anyone ever caught a sand trout that large? I know I haven't! It was a beast! Lol.

At that size it was probably a gulf trout.

Yeah, you're probably right! It was more silver in color too. Probably wasn't a sand trout.

I've never fished this time of year before and am new to jetty fishing. I'm curious to see what the colder water will bring into the jetties. I guess gulf trout is one of the species that come in during this time of the year. I have a feeling I'll be catching a lot of new species that I've never caught before, which is cool. =)

Did you take the time to count the rays on their fins?

Lol, no I didn't. I was going to post a zoomed in pic of it and let someone else do it so we would all have a definite fish ID. Buuuut, never got around to taking a pic of it. =P

Guess it will remain a mystery!

It is filleted and in the the freezer now. =)
