I found that if you fry Sheephead they are, fishy (imagine that). Too strong for my liking.

If I sautee them in garlic and butter - served over rice, they are a completely different animal. They become white and flaky as opposed to oily and strong.

I have not expereinced such a wide texture and taste in one fish when cooking it different ways.

Any other receipes that are good, besides cooking with a towel, throwing the fish away, and eating the towel? I think Big John suggested this method.

What bait and techniques are y'all using to catch the sheepies and then get them up to the pier? Heading down that way Tues. and Wed and from the looks of things the weather won't be too great for Kayak fishing on Wed, so I may head over that way and try my luck.

I like to catch them on an arrow. Bowfishing is great for sheepies.

They love live shrimp. They also love barnacles, but they are hard to put on a hook. Also, those anenomes on the jetty rocks are awesome bait for them.

I have a gadget that works better than netting for pulling up fish onto a pier. Might have to patten that then talk to Nick about going in business with him. Wink
