I thought it would be cool if everyone that surf fished would share one pointer, trick or treat that they picked up this year while fishing.
So i will start with one.

We all know how important it is to be quite when pulling up to a potential fishing spot. Not to slam the truck door, have your pole pre rigged, fish into the first gut before you wade through it, and don't bang your pole holders into the sand. We had been digging a hole then put the PVC in. We figured out that you can use the ghost shrimp pump to suction out the sand then place the PVC in the hole quickly, eliminating 95% of the noise and allowing you to get the holder deep enough to support larger tackle.

I will take the top ten surf fishing Tricks based upon my opinion , set up a "pole Question" after one week the winner (highest %) will get a Treat. One custom 30 ft. SS 2 hook Shark leader, 5 Red fish leaders and 10 secret trout jigs with plastic's.

Great ideas, does it have to be a trick you learned this year or can it be a trick you've known for awhile? Also, can we post more than one?

Stick your pvc rod holder in the sand and suck on the end of it and it will sink into the sand Very Happy

If your leader is too long to cast you can slide the loop of your hook over the top of one of the claws in your spider weight, when the weight hits the water it almost always jets the bait/hook off of the claw and it gives you some added distance as well without having everything flailing around.

Bring your wife and explain to her that Whiting are a rare trophy. You'll have a cooler full of bait all weekend and plenty to make tacos with later. Smile

One thing I do that I don't see many people do is use baitrunner reels when bottom fishing the surf. Having two drags (one for the strike and the other the main drag to fight the fish) is simple and efficient. Being able to turn the handle and switch to the main drag instantly is so much better than frantically tightening a star drag after a strike. It's also great when you're taking someone who doesn't fish much and doesn't get the concept of a drag. With a baitrunner they just pick it up and start reeling.

Good thread. Are you serious about being "quiet" when pulling up to a surf that is probably making its own "noise" with crashing waves, windy blow, etc? I seriously doubt that any fish in the surf can hear any thing that we as fishermen do when approaching a beach fishing locale....but then again????

ONly trick I can offer is to try and locate far enough away from the swimmers and kiddies so as to not get anyone foul hooked!

wow that's alot of free tackle Shocked

never use steel anything other than the hook, and use no weight if possible, and invisible line i.e. fluorocarbon, this if for light tackle fishing of course.

Whenever I'm on way down island and have to take a crap I figured out the best way to do it!

I open the back passenger side door of the suburban and put my right cheek on the floorboard/step right there. It's alomst like using the toilet, you just gotta put all you weight on one side. You're blocked from people's view if you park at an angle torward the water, you don't go far from your loaded truck, you still get to listen to your new lady gaga CD, and It's actually kind of fun!!!

AhHa....i do have one! Ive only tried this once....but it worked! A few years back we were camped at the forties, with no camps in sight both directions. A couple day trippers stopped within 50 yds of us and started setting up for the day.....being a little irratated by there presence....i came up with a plan.....After warning the rest of my crew about my plan i simply got nekid and started bait fishing....Needless to say they packed fairly quikly and was on their way. WARNING be careful about using this tactic south of bobhaul.....The same thing that makes ya laugh....could make ya cry! Wink

You don't need to use 6 rods but try out these areas to figure out where the fish are feeding. Sometimes they are in the wade gut or behind the first bar and other times they are further out. You wont know where they are if all of your lines are in the same gut.

Haha, I usually try to find a bucket that has washed up on the beach. After a long day of fishing it feels nice to sit on top of the dunes and take a dump.
