Going coastal from San Antonio tomorrow a.m thru Sat noon. Thinking of fishing Packery since I've been reading good things about it the last few weeks. Aside from the crowd(s), any suggestions as to where I should set up? Packery jetties or by the bridge. Are mullet and live shrimp the ticket? Any and all information is appreciated from ya'll coastal locals. Thx guys ....

Try fishing closer to the rocks than you feel comfortable with and you may just get a surprise. My total outlook on jetty fishing is, if I'm not getting hung up and/or losing a rig now and then, I'm not close enough to the rocks!

Many of the species which live around jetties and other cover rarely stray too far from home, unless they're looking for another abode.

i read a report that all the fish in the bays and gulf left last week for South Padre .... JK

I would say to get you some FishBites as i am now a firm believer in them ... caught Mangrove, whiting, red and a spec on them ... i bet in the water it just reeks of shrimp!

If you have a cast net and can catch some very small (2") pinfish, the snapper wear them out and they're much easier to keep alive than anything else with just a cheap 2xD cell pump and air stone. Lots of folks may prefer small mullet if using live fish, but side by side I usually do better with the small pinfish, when I get to fish on the coast. http://www.cabelas.com/aerators-bait-keepers-fish-lights-marine-metal-products-bubble-box-1.shtml

Of course live shrimp are hard to beat at times, but they're expensive, fairly perishable without good care and the pinfish, piggies, hardheads and everything else love them TOO.......................... you won't be catching junk using small pinfish or mullet! Wink

If you go the air stone/pump route, tie a 1 oz weight around the stone to keep it deep in the bucket and force good oxygenation and water turnover. I've had them run for 3 days on 2 D's and keep a 5 gallon bucket of bait alive all night until I could do a water change.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess we'll check it out. We'll be setup either by the rocks or by the bridge. If you're around, look for a pop up canopy of the graet state of Texas, I'll either be by it or around it trying to catch a fish or some fish. Stop by & say hello, bring a cold or have a cold one, either or... Be safe later guys...
