Where do most of y'all purchase your leader material? On my down time I would like to start making my own leaders for better presentation of the bait. Also looking for sizes of crimps for different size wire/mono, is there a chart? What type of leader for surf fishing do you prefer? I'm targeting reds with the occasional shark. Thanks in advance. _________________ Stinger-A |

i make my own leaders too. i like to use fluro line. its harder to see/almost invisible in water. i use 17 lb vanish. as far as leaders for sharks you can go several routes, you can get coated steel wire, like sevalon it comes in different test. and you can also use like stainless wire like Malin for this kinda wire you wont need crimps if you do not want to you can use a haywire twist. you can also make king fish leaders with the malin. if you choose to use a mono or fluro the crimp sleeve sizes will depend in the test line you use. and i buy all my stuff from Academy. tight lines _________________ GILLY |

For shark stuff my last two orders I got from KingKilla on the forums (I think he's here too, but also on EC). For surf/reds I have a big spool of 80# Cajun left from spooling a 12/0 I've since sold and I make all my leaders out of that, holds up really well. I've been making them with breakaway IMP clips for casting. _________________ JJ |

don't forget www.leadertec.com
not local but good online resource if you aren't near a store that sells all of the stuff... you can get a lot of really good info on the do's and don't of crimping etc. from there
Kingkilla has an add on extreme that is a couple weeks old and he's an excellent source for pre-made surf leaders as well as bulk material I think? |

Yes, thank you. Just got back from Roy's. Also visited Breakaway and had some of the best service I've seen in awhile. Also met Nick and he offered great advice when making leaders. I seriously need to get one of those rods!!! All around great people. I'll be busy all day today making leaders and watching the Nickaway DVD. _________________ Stinger-A |
