| I've been keeping up with the forum for a while, but this is my first post. I'm looking for a little input from everybody. I've recently acquired a 7' gator rod and I'm looking to put an Avet on it. I want to use it as somewhat of an "all around" type of fishing combo. I don't want to put too much money into something that would be overkill, and I also don't want to hold out and not use the rod to its best of its abilities. Any input is appreciated, Thanks. |

An Avet may be overkill for an "all around" setup, though I haven't looked at their full line-up lately. They are also a bit pricey.
What do you intend on using it for, "most of the time?". _________________ I'd rather be fishing |

maybe not all around.
But definitely out on the piers and jetties. For some of the bigger game. |

Otherwise, perhaps an Abu Garcia 7000? _________________ I'd rather be fishing |

If its an older Avet or newer non mc, they respond well to static magging.
A Daiwa Sealine shv 20 may be a good low cost alternative. IMO _________________ "If we don't leave any, there won't be any."

| Consider going by Breakaway Tackle on Rod Field Road and talk to Nick or any of the folks there and listen to their suggestions. Few people anywhere know more about the right tackle on the gulf coast and Nick won't try to sell you something you don't need. He's well known and certainly trusted in the community. |

| I would go with the Avet if the price is ok with you. I have several of the Daiwa and they are a great reel for the price. |

Just what is over kill ? When it comes to fishing it's kinda like hunting. I may not shoot the most expensive rifle on the face of the earth but I carry a good quality dependable rifle. The same goes for fishing, when you get the big one on the end of your line, it's sorta like that 11pt buck eating corn 50 ft away under the feeder you don't want to miss out on it. As for me I like those 200 meter shots. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |
