I thought this was going to be a funny story...was hoping to read a train wreck.

Thought it would read: It was 4am and I was getting gas and ice at the Waldron Exxon, when this ____ came walking up to me.

Back to topic. Last time I had to get one rebuilt I shopped it all over. Pricing was all over the place. Probably the best one you can get is from Trans parts warehouse, that's what Great State will install. Best warranty, biggest price.
Labor cost is what really seemed to separate them all. Any and all parts will come from Trans Parts anyway. I went with Johnston's because they where not gauging on labor. They did a great job on a 4L80. It never gave me a lick of trouble for the next 40K I drove it. Saved me $1000. Oh, and they like to fish allot.

Sounds like a shift solenoid. Look it up online it's not uncommon and most parts stores have them. They run anywhere form 30 - $40. I am not sure what they will charge for labor if it is the problem.

It always seems to happen just after you found out you need 2 root canals. The home a/c goes out and the kid in college needs 500 bucks to cover his books. Life goes on..... Sad
