As for someone trying to kill you, I doubt it, screw with you maybe. There's much better ways to kill a man, either way I wish you the best of luck.

And nice ling too Smile

yes, every person with long hair and tie dye shirts is a drunk, pot smoker, and meth smoker. Its obvious right, captainobvious?

Never assume untill you know the facts, and another persons opinnion isnt a fact, it just a opinnion.

I'd be on the the lookout,, they are going to start being more aggressive in their attempt to get you or your money.

Well I'm glad that you did post this. It serves as a PSA reminder that even the most experienced can have something go wrong. I don't have a kayak (yet) but this, and all the helpful advice and tips following, will help me learn how to do it safely even though I have no plans to go BTB.
Yet.

I ache for all that quality gear (and wallet) lost.

Now I know why you wear tie dye; it brings you good luck. (Noticed there was no tie dye this trip out) Wink

Glad it turned out okay.

Its a good post...

most kayakers i know get lazy about safety...

its usually the guys that go out to often that the checklist for safety turns into a mental check instead of actually looking...

did that today...paddled out through the breakers...forgot to check my back hatch ..it was open haha took on minimal water though...

that road rash was definitely there, SB got the yak from me and i put some work on that sucker but it would take a good hit from something to put that kind of crack in it....

and that drain plug doesnt just work loose or pop out ....

probably just idiots being idiots mucking around with other peoples gear....

glad your alright brother!!!

I totally understand your point and it's obviously true, but a checklist is just that and is only useful if used every time.

I made references to my dad and his piloting career. We NEVER got along, but I loved flying with the guy because as good as he was and with many 1000's of hours behind him, he NEVER took off without doing a preflight check and walk around and he never landed without going through the landing checklist. As I said too, this kept him from having some potentially serious and/or life threatening situations.

As to people and what they are or are not inclined to do: I wouldn't put ANYTHING past humanity.......................................................

You can "weld" some serious cracks in yaks if your careful. Need to get a plastic rod/material and one of them small butane torches crack heads use. Apply heat carefully and like welding. Do a search on TKF on it or take it over to JerryBs and have him look at it. Idea
