Fishing has been especially hot around Pure Oil. I am proud to say my dad has broken our "no reds" streak and caught one. Unfortunately, when we measured it, it was not big enough to keep (very close though!). We did managed a total of 12 trout. We landed 6 of those trout in 15 minutes when the bite seemed to turn on, then off as quickly as it came. We finished of the day as usual in the housing canals and managed 1 20" speck. We had landed another the night before in the same spot (also 20"). Those canals are my favorite place for larger trout, since we have caught around 5 specks 20-22" inches there and one at nearly 25". The fish will hit artificials, but they can't resist the croaker.

Here is the cooler:

Good luck, but be careful of shallow water. The first time I went I ran into some mud, channel is poorly marked. You should be fine once you pass the gas well though.
Very Happy

Just line up on the boat house on shore as you pass through the mouth (well marked with the big triple pilings years back to keep barges from running aground turning the corner) and look for the few remaining large 6" PVC poles that mark the S edge. The channel is 3-4' deep and straight, so it should be fine for all bay boats, but the N edge of the channel at the cabins is a few inches deep at low tide. I hit it trying to avoid fishermen in the channel a week ago. Grr...it's hard bottom too.

Lately for me in that area the trout have been easy to catch but running 5 or more undersized for each keeper the last few weekends. Then again I've been taking the kids out so live shrimp and lots of action has been the ticket...not size.

Nice box and I am headed your way for a little weekend of fishing. Hopefully some good reports. Here in H town red tide in Galveston has made the local news. Lot of dead shad and pinfish on the beach. Sure hope it stays away from the ULM.
