have a little freshwater experience and have 9wt set up for salt. I am going to have the opportunity to fish the flats around Matagorda Island near the old state park this coming weekend. I'll probably break out the flyrod early morning and maybe evening if the wind cooperates... What 3 flies would you guys take if you were me? I keep hearing clouser, but I am interested in throwing a popper at sunrise

Try clouser, shrimp, and crab patterns. If you like poppers, you might try a gurgler, too. #4 is the most popular size in the flats.

Poppers and redfish crack are my two favorites. I would also take a spoonfly and clousers.

never broke out a popper but tore up the black drum on clousers and shrimp patterns. Thanks again!

Awesome, much better than I did. I went out yesterday just to try the new 7/8 reel and managed to drown my brand new I-phone. It wasn't even 12 hours old and I never got to talk to Siri.

That blows... we got pretty lucky. We knew where there were fish, they were hungry and the wind allowed easy presentation
