OK guys i know some of you use Yeti and some of you don't. However, i just bought 2 Igloo marine coolers earlier this summer and they have to be the worst cooler ever made. Latches broke on 1st trip and ice does not last for more than half a day. i dont mind spending the money on a Yeti if its worth it but i want to get your opoinion on Yeti coolers or any other cooler you may recommend for fishing/hunting. I appreciate your input! _________________ 'When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.' |

I would rather have igloos stolen out of my boat than Yeti's. It's too bad I have to look at it that way. Yeti is by far the best and most expensive and most sought after by thieves. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| I wish there was more options that fell between igloo and yeti, its either $60 or $350 not much in between. |

As far as cooling goes solid styrofoam coolers work best. Saw a comparision done on mythbusters. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

I have a yeti cooler and it's really cool. I wouldn't have bought it except for the fact that a family member could get a dealership discount and I bought it for like 30% off. They are durable as hell and I love that I can put some dry ice in it along with regular ice and the ice will last forever.
That said, if I take a bag of ice and put it in the Yeti (with no dry ice) and take another bag of ice and put it in an Igloo extreme (or whatever they are called), the Yeti doesn't really keep ice any longer. I'm sure there are people on the board that will say that is incorrect, but I'm just sharing my experience. When I did a little research, I found some information supporting what I experienced. Doesn't mean they are not worth it, it depends on how you intend to use it. But as for keeping ice longer, unless it has dry ice in it, my experience has been that they are similar or the same as cheaper extreme coolers.

| i have an igloo marine and have zero issues with it. i think it keeps ice pretty well. i put 20lbs of ice in sunday am. it sat in the open sun all day on the front of the boat. it got a fish thrown in it about 9am which didnt fit. then monday it sat all day in the sun and last night there was still some ice in it. thats pretty good with the lid partially open IMO. |

I too have an Igloo Marine cooler and also think it does a good job, for the $$ spent ........................ notice that there are only TWO dollar signs there!!!!! Plus, nobody has stolen it yet in at least 12 years or more after leaving it in my boat tied to the bank for weeks on end. Of course, that wasn't all in Corpus!
Sure the hinges and latches break after much UV exposure. Big deal, you can get them at many stores for relatively little coin and they're quick and easy to replace. One thing that the Igloo doesn't have that I installed is a gasket. Makes a HUGE difference! _________________ Dave

For me, it's not so much the cooler brand, as it is the temperature of the ice when you start. THAT determines how long it lasts (that and whether you keep the ice intact or loose).
Want to keep ice a long time, put a full bag of ice in your deep freezer the day before you are going, and keep it intact in the bag, and I guarantee you it will last way longer than anything short of dry ice.
The stuff out of the "coin-operated ice machines" is close to melting for a reason (it moves through the machine easy), and most ice maker machines will keep ice at a temperature that makes it easy to scoop out - way too warm. Start it really cold (-20 F like a decent deep freezer) and it will last a LONG time.
The next best option is to go with block ice, but block ice has seemed to fall out of fashion these days. |

| I'm too cheap to buy a yeti. Whenever I buy a new igloo or coleman ice chest I apply 3M marine adhesive on all the latches, screws, seams etc...That stuff takes a week to fully cure but it's tough as nails and reinforces all the weak spots |

| I received a 65 quart Yeti last year for my birthday. When I fish the surf I have my Yeti and an old Coleman 5 day extreme. I have found that the ice will last about the same in either ice chest. The one with the drinks always seems to melt a little faster but that is probably because my son likes to dig in the ice to find the coldest drink. I guess the most important thing is, the next ice chest I buy will be a Coleman or Igloo. Although the free metal cage the Yeti comes with is very nice. |

I have a 55 qt. Brute and it is not as nicely finished as the Yeti and doesn't have some of the nicer features as the Yeti but if you are looking for a cooler that is rugged built and will keep ice longer than your normal coolers this may be it.
