On Saturday, June 30, I went fishing in Louisiana and got stuck by a hardhead in the finger just below the knuckle. It must still have a piece in it because it is a pretty painful bump. And remember, it was a long time ago! Would you go get it checked out or just let te body work it out? It really doesn't show any signs of infection... Yet! Haha thanks,
Zack

Go see the Dr. Then again I still have a piece of graphite in my wrist somewhere when I jammed a pencil in it playing football at recess. Smile

If it hurts when you press on it for sure go see a Doc. Those hardheads sure have a way of making a poke hurt alot.

Lil red, I don't think the body will work it out. I've still got two knots in my right palm from about 8 yrs. ago. I shot a mule deer in west texas and when I grabbed his leg to pull him off the mountain, it was covered in cactus thorns. However, they didn't hurt, just a nuisance. I did have a hardhead fin me at Matagorda and I wasn't sure I could get it out (right in the knuckle joint) and yes, it did hurt like hell.

I got hit by a hardhead about a week ago... I didn't have anything broken off in my finger, but it hurt like hell for about 6 days. I couldn't move my finger for the first couple days.

If it's infected you could have a problem. If it hurts I'd get it checked.

Can you elaborate on how you play football with a pencil?

I got stuck in the joint of my thumb several years ago. Like OFTII, nothing broke off in my thumb...I watched it slide in and out of my thumb like a hypodermic. I was more pissed at myself for being careless than in pain (it did hurt Smile ) because it happened on the first day of a four day trip and I was afraid it would get infected and ruin my trip. No infection, but it did swell and stayed that way for several weeks. It was numb for almost a year and I could not bend it fully for just as long.

What I DID was...make it bleed for 5 minutes or so and then put Betadine from my first aid kit on it. Then I watched it VERY closely for the next several days for infection.

Seeing a doc would be the safe thing to do. Most likely the period for it to become infected is long past. There doesn't have to a remnant left behind to cause the type of pain and discomfort you describe. Hope it fades away quickly and no eggs were implanted at the time you were stuck.

I know this will be good for a few laughs or a bunch of laughs, but anytime I get finned by a hardhead, I rub the hardheads belly over the fin spot getting the slime from the fish on it.

Whether it is just pysco-schematic suggestion or actual effect. Within a few hours the place no longer hurts and the swelling goes away.
