ima big fan of the ole 4 banger, i know crazy,i can hit 70 going down the jfk with hurricane force winds at my back. running 37 bfg krawlers and 5.38s.

Haha I can relate. I slow down to about 50mph (reads 45mph on the speedometer due to the 33's) going over the JFK headed to the island in the new Lil' S Wagon 4 cylinder Wrangler. But on the way home I can approach 67 mph with the wind.

yup, with a full rack of rods sticking 10 above the back, with the right head on wind and a precise right foot, i can ride a wheelie up the jfk.j/k

I used my brothers Jeep Wrangler 6cylinder manual trans last year. Have some BFG AT tires, standard size. Towed a trailer with a kayak but I must add the conditions were excellent to the 40 mm. What I did not like was the aluminum front mounted rod rack. At night the reflection back at me blinded me. Good thing it was removable. The lighter weight of the Jeep, coupled with its ground clearence can only get better with the mods you are talking about. Better safe than sorry.
