I'm looking to replace that 1962 Mirrocraft I've been using forever, and purchased a brand new 15hp Mercury.
Thing is, I know very little about small fiberglass boats. i know Carolina Skiff makes a couple under 16 ft, but having ridden in the things i'd like something that won't pound as much.
My parameters are:
Under 16 ft.
Tiller steer with a short shaft.
Self-bailing would be nice.
Suitable for running around the backyard and intracoastal.
Is there something in fiberglass you guys would recommend or should I be looking at aluminum? I'm kind of playing with the idea of an inflatable, (Launching from the beach for BTB) but want to look at fiberglass first. |

I'm partial to the Florida type microskiffs but a lot of Texans scoff at them because they lack a "tunnel". Take a look at some on Microskiff.com such as Gheenoe, Hells-Bay, Mitzi, Ankona, et. al.
They are light, easy to handle, well built and a smaller motor scoots them right along. Take a look at Custom Gheenoe. com for some comparisons of that particular brand.
Boats Direct in Georgia is a shipper of a lot of different boats and they have some jon-type boats and skiffs on their website. _________________ Mike |

I have nothing against aluminum, but I really like the idea of self-bailing and full flotation. (like Whaler, McKee etc) I haven't found any aluminum boats that fit that requirement. |

What's wrong with a Carolina Skiff J14?
