this is a video
Prof. Salt picked me up in the morning, we got to the beach pretty early, and found that my Tarpon 100 had jumped off the trailer a quarter mile back down the road from where we launched(my straps are too big gonna get knew ones) luckily i have one tough little yak and it was still ready to go (the Tarpon100 can add jumping off a moving vehicle to its long list of achievements lol)
ltorna1 out distancing me in his tarpon 140.. pretty sunrise
you can see the rigs we are headed to in the distance
got to the first rig and trolled and drifted around it.
i had a nice king hit something on the surface 10feet in front of my trolled ribbonfish didn't hook him up...
headed on off to the next rig...
when we got to the big rig B.Lowrey hooks something heavy that tried to take him into the rig, ended up breaking the wire..
B.Lowrey gets himself a nice 45inch king, congrats
i tie to the rig and work on hooking a few snapper...i chum allot and get a feeding frenzy of triggerfish, spadefish, snapper and hardheads..
Prof. Salt cruises by pretty close and gets a screaming king run...ended up going 45inches..
got three legal snapper biggest was 18inches he tried to pull me into the rig lol ended up giving them to Prof. Salt
the little standpipe to the right of the pic is 5miles offshore...awesome day to be offshore
i troll by the standpipe and sink my ribbonfish deep...i get bit on one rod then get the other ribbonfish bit in two, i go to free spool and this 24inch smack picks up the half ribbonfish..he did not want to be gaffed, and went a little crazy..
i bled that smack, i was tolling back to the big rig just after bleeding it..
i feel something behind me, i look back to see a 6 1/2 foot bullshark(around 300pounds) on the surface about 10feet behind me.. i reeled a ribbonfish in front of it and it went deep...was having fun when i thought i was going to hook it up, but when i couldn't see it anymore i got a little nervous...
it was a little slow today couldn't get myself a king, i tried pretty hard and covered allot of water with no takers
trolled through huge schools of bumper shad with no bites..nice day on the water with friends i may get to go again sometime this week
it was HOT today i didn't take enough water and got really worn out luckily a friend was better prepared than i was and had some extra bottles...didn't catch any big fish, still gonna call the day a win though..i went fishing with friends and stayed safe good enough for me
got two new species for Kayak Wars which is pretty cool...i am up to 9 species from the yak this year for KW (the fish have to make minimum length to count for KW)
I dyed the shirt i am wearing...been doing it for a while now..
till next time..He who shall not be mentioned out...

| Drunkswimmer, the water was pretty flat but the vis was not great. The top 15 feet is pretty clear (at the 5-mile rig), but it's murky green below that. Spearfishing would be possible, but it's not as clear as it could be. |

He who shall not be mentioned....
When you are out that far (and not tied off to the rigs), how do you anchor or are you just drifting? |

It was definitely an perfect day out there. I finished up with an insurmountable number of small red snapper, some nice spade fish, and a 3 foot blacktip.
It was the kind of day where you are just waiting for things to explode. Shad were everywhere, conditions were pretty good, you could cover some ground drifting the with light breeze. The kings were just somewhere else. NIce pics He who shall not be mentioned. |
