There are 2 downsides to Jeeps, imho: space for your paraphernalia/ entourage & they are pretty tiring on the highway, long(er) distance. Cruise control fixes that. Or maybe lack of AC was in play.
The best thing about them is that they are sports car (well, almost- convertible, anyway) & 4WD, so satisfy all mid-life urges at once + utilitarian.

Is there a soft top also? |

Ok, get yourself a set of Tuffy door locks. They go about the door hinges and you can open or close the lock. It enables you to leave the door pin nuts off and not have to worry about someone stealing your 1,300 dollar doors. And sure as the day you were born someone will try to steal them. Also, if you plan on ripping out the carpet, rhino line the interior. You'll never look back. _________________ Not much motion in the ocean...but hey, I'm the captain! |

Thanks for the tips. The interior is already Rhino lined and ready to just hose out sand if needed. I will look into those door locks too!

How much lift is on it?? May need more than shims, may need a slip yoke eliminator kit installed and a cv rear driveshaft. That 4 cylinder is plenty of power if you gear it properly, I have seen many of em turning 42" tires before. The biggest weak link on these is that rear dana 35 axle, and honestly instead of gearing the dana 35, you could have a ford 8.8 swapped in easily be on your way. Much stronger and same bolt pattern.
As for the comment of looking for an older v8 version, you are talking about a much older Jeep (1980 and older), that has many of its own problems. Not to mention, the 304 that was used as the base v8 in the cj's left alot to be desired. My 304 in my Jeep runs like a top, but has no power... They were 125~ hp or so, and honestly the 2.5 of the late 90's wasnt really far off of that. |

It's got a four inch lift and yeah I have heard about the Slip Yoke Eliminator and CV rear driveshaft. Who does a good job on that kind of work around here and how much does it run?

| I would recommend Pro Automotive, they are off Woolridge between staples and airline. They can fix you up for sure. You can buy the SYE kit for $150 or so ( I just bought one myself not too long ago), and the driveshaft would be in the $250 range or so. Not sure what the labor cost is, but I wouldnt guess more than a couple hundred. It's all worth it though. |
