| Ive made a post or two about my trip to Aransas Pass next saturday with a total of 6 people. I don't get down to the coast but a few times a year. I would like to do it more because I grew up in Florida (Space Coast area) and thats all I knew growing up. We plan on spending some money on good bait(any suggestions) but I am also going to grab some soft plastics(suggestions,i.e. color, weights of jigs) before I head on down. What are the bait shops in that area? |

All depends on where ya going. I like Clem's, Roy's, and Red Dot. But don't under estimate your local HEB!!! Also remember to support the sites sponsors to keep this fishing report boat afloat!!!

| My two favorite plastics are Texas red shad and chicken on a chain bass assasins. Roach and glow with lime tail are others I like, depends on water clarity. |

There are a couple of guys at Marker 37 who can give you a lot of info if you go there. They usually (keyword usually) can give you some good bait. _________________ JJ |

1/8th oz weedless jig heads with Texas Tackle Factory "morning glory" or "sabine machine" are my go to plastics _________________ A flute without holes, is not a flute. A donut without a hole, is a Danish. |

Berkley Gulps are great because they attract like live bait, with the durability of a plastic. _________________ JJ |

For the AP area you can hit Tarpon Shores or Fin and Feather on the causeway, or hop across the ferry to Port A and have a huge selection for live bait.
As for artificials, Super Spook Jr in Bone(try to find the saltwater bone), gold spoons, or pumpkin chartreuse plastics. Stop and see Dean and Jennifer at the Kayak Shack on Commercial in AP, they have a selection of plastics and leader material and are a veritable encyclopedia of information on fishing the local flats. If you need to completely outfit as far as tackle you may want to plan on a trip over to Port A. There are several bait stands and tackle shops. Port A Outfitters is the nearest thing to Roy's in that area unless you just have a burning need to run all the way back to CC. |
