Howdy! Been reading y'alls forum for a few years now and decided to become a part of the group. Thanks for all the tips and reports and keep them comming.
I have been out twice this past month, PINS and BHP, and have pretty much gotten skunked. First trip I got spooled for almost a 1000yrds of braid at MM 17.5, that was fun. And Memorial Day, I missed a monster king that stripped 200yards of line in about ten seconds at BHP. First time I haver ever heard a screaming reel and, I must say, I am now totally hooked.
Hope to see some of y'all on the beach and here is wishing everyone Tight Lines! |

Forgot to mention the baits that I was using. When I got spooled at the beach, I had a 3lb Bonita as bait. That fish never ran, just picked up my bait and slowly swam away. Nothing I could do would make it turn
At BHP, we had a multitude of baits going, Bonita, ray, mullet, sand trout, hardhead, perch and whiting. The last four baits were live, hooked under the dorsal. We checked our baits very couple of hours and they were always gone. Something would bite them off and miss the hook. I'm guessing they were getting eaten by the multitude of pup sharks that were getting caught all morning and throughout the day. Next time I am adding another, smaller hook to the bait and running it thru the lips.
The king hit on a slab of jack crevell that another fisherman gave me. It just grabbed and went, by the time I tightened down the drama it was almost 200yrds away and when I put tension on the line to set the hook, it jumped and I pulled the hook out of it's mouth
But I will be back, that's all that matters, lol |

Evidently, you have my technique down perfectly.
When you start catching, call me, and maybe you can help me break my streak. "Course, mine's lasted a lifetime!
If I actually caught, I'm not sure which would be scared the most, me or the fish. _________________ Ray |
